This was the first weekend since it opened that The Hunger Games was weak enough to be dethroned from the top slot. Fortunately for the film, it’s competition was weak. Perhaps not as weak as originally thought, as The Three Stooges and The Cabin in the Woods exceeded some expectations, whereas Lockout barely opened in the top ten. Check out the numbers…

This weekend a film that’s been sitting in a can for nearly three years goes up against a reboot of a franchise spawned in the 1920′s, only to have to face deadly Hunger Games competition. Yes, we are in April, and yes, the system is winding down after a record-setting March to deliver odd films that the system never figured out how to sell.

Though far from disastrous, American Reunion didn’t get the nostalgia buzz hoped for, and may become the least appealing film in the American Pie box set (there’s eight films in total if you include the direct to video set). So for the third weekend in a row, The Hunger Games has taken the crown. It also passed the $300 Million dollar mark. Check out the top ten…

I’m guessing Universal didn’t think American Reunion was going to be going up against such heavy competition, but it looks like the reissue of Titanic is already making money. It did $4.7 Million on the day it opened, which is impressive for a three hour plus movie that’s been on home video since 1998. And then there’s The Hunger Games. Busy weekend…

American Reunion wouldn’t be right without Eugene Levy and Jennifer Coolidge. The two might’ not have been a part of East Great Falls High’s Class of ’99, but their characters are just as important as those of the teens they shared the screen with. We recently had the chance to talk to both comic actors about returning to the world of American Pie and reprising their roles as Jim’s Dad and Stifler’s Mom. Check out our interview below…

In college, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg were huge fans of the original American Pie. Now that they’re well known as the guys behind the Harold & Kumar movies, it’s really no surprise that they were given the chance to revive the classic teen comedy and give it their own spin, revisiting the original characters just in time for a high school reunion. We recently had the chance to talk to the writers/directors and discuss American Reunion recently, check out our interview below.

UPDATE: The directors now claim they were joking and taken out of context. Read the details after the jump.
Thanks to the success of their Harold and Kumar franchise, as well as the fair-to-solid buzz surrounding their newest film, American Reunion, that’s set to hit theaters next week, writer/ directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg have signed a deal with Universal Pictures that “allows them shuffle through Universal’s vast library of films and remake or re-imagine films that pique their interest.” One franchise they’d like to reboot? Back to the Future.
