Well, it’s official: Ryan Seacrest is officially The Most Powerful Person in Reality Television (which is kind of like being the King of Crap Island or Emperor of Turd County, but, hey, whatever), finally ousting Simon Cowell, who had held the top spot since 2009.

Sigh. We hate to report on such frivolous things as “American Idol” but it is a television show — whether we like it or not. The Fox Network has finally confirmed the two new judges who will be replacing Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi for season 9. Drum roll please: your new judges are Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Now who’s really surprised by that announcement? Not us, but here are the details…

The music-television hybrid that “American Idol” is unfortunately puts it on our radar in terms of coverage. The reality show has gone through many ups and downs over the past few months, and by downs we mean its ratings. The show isn’t the juggernaut that it used to be and the producers can’t take a hint. Even with the absence of Simon Cowell, and now Ellen DeGeneres’ departure they’re still trying to make it work — with Jennifer Lopez.
Ever since Conan O’Brien left his home at NBC, he’s been rumored to be in talks with the Fox network for a new project. Of course we all know this could mean a new talk show for the former host, but apparently there’s something else on the horizon. Reports have surfaced stating that O’Brien might be in negotiations to join “American Idol.”
“Because we LOVE MAKING MOVIES!!!” Well at least that’s the case if you’re working on a Quentin Tarantino set. And no, I didn’t make that quote up, Tarantino makes his crew scream it in the clip below.
Although I was hoping the rumor of Tarrantino showing up on American Idol was fake, it wasn’t, it was real. And it was confirmed by the Weinstein Company sending over a clip of Quentin Tarantino’s special guest mentor appearance of the show, and a debut of never-seen-before footage from his upcoming film Inglourious Basterds. At first glance, this may seem like a weird idea. I mean, can anyone think of a more u likely combinations than some fluffy, mainstream, singing TV show and one of the the most bloody, foul-mouthed Directors of our time? But then I thought, well that’s why he went! How oddly cool is it that he appeared on the show. And as a bonus, hopefully he converted some Idol watchers with his clip.
