One of the big name auteur’s at this year’s Santa Barbara Film Festival is Atom Egoyan (not in person), with his latest Chloe. A sexual drama that bears a dubious reputation from its round on the festival circuit last year, it was adapted from 2003′s star-studded Nathalie (Depardieu, Ardent, Béart) and turns out to have been described quite accurately as a misfire.
From the award winning novel by critically acclaimed author Nicholas Sparks, comes the current box office champ, (breaking Avatar‘s record) Dear John. Following in the footsteps of A Walk to Remember and The Notebook, director Lasse Hallstrom plays off that love lorn history to captivate a new audience. The film stars everyone’s favorite heartthrob, Channing Tatum as a soldier who falls in love with a college student while on leave. The always refreshing Amanda Seyfried plays the object of his affection, and adds a breath of fresh air to this 21st century love story.

The two standout movies coming out this week are both love stories. The first is director Lasse Hallstrom’s adaptation of Nicholas Sparks‘ newest bestseller, Dear John. The man who wrote The Notebook, brings us the story a young soldier named John Tyree (Channing Tatum) and his one true love Savannah (Amanda Seyfried). The pair have good on screen chemistry and are not bad to look at. I definitely think this movie will be number 1 this week.
The other movie worth watching is Pierre Morel‘s film From Paris With Love. This isn’t a love story in the traditional sense, although it is about the love one man has for action. It stars John Travolta as a bad ass Agent and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Rising starlet Amanda Seyfried has made a very important decision in her career, she’s opted to leave the HBO series Big Love. According to TVGuide, the actress will exit the show to pursue her film career full time. This shouldn’t come as a shock to fans of the series because Seyfried has become a hot commodity since her star turning role in Mamma Mia.

I vaguely remember reading an article about the upcoming animated feature Marmaduke. The film is based on the popular comic strip character of the same name that was originally created by Brad Anderson. The film will be a mix of CGI and live action following in the footsteps of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Garfield. The newly announced cast features everyone from a British comedian to a Black Eye Pea, find out who’ll be behind the scenes of Marmaduke.
