Amanda Seyfried Looks Like A 70s Porn Star In New ‘Lovelace’ Poster

Amanda Seyfried‘s new film finds her starring as one of the most famous porn actresses of all time – Linda Lovelace. In the 70s, Lovelace was launched into stardom thanks to Deep Throat, the one movie that almost made porn a mainstream genre (even Jackie O. went to see it). Until now, we’ve only seen a few glimpses of the racy film, but the official Lovelace poster has finally arrived.

For a film that’s suppose to be about a 70s porn star, the poster is actually pretty conservative. Clearly it wasn’t shot by Tyler Shields. All we see is a hint of Seyfried’s shoulder and lace undergarments. Still, Seyfried looks gorgeous and mysterious.

The poster also mentions the talented cast with Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard as the leads. Lined up in alphabetical order, the poster lists actors Hank Azaria, Wes Bentley, Bobby Cannavale, James Franco, Chris Noth, Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert Patrick, Eric Roberts, Chloe Sevigny, Sharon Stone and Juno Temple. (Hey, we’ve got Noth and Parker in the same film again. It’s a Sex and the City reunion.)

Unfortunately, the poster doesn’t give the most important information – an official release date. The IMDB page for Lovelace says that the film will be out in 2012, but that remains to be seen. Here’s the poster:

This week the Academy added The Muppets and Cirque du Soleil to its Oscars telecast. We’ll have the chance to see acrobatic dancers perform, and best of all, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Jon Hamm also revealed some new “Mad Men” details, all during an interview at the BAFTAs. We’ve also got some stills from the upcoming movie Deep Throat, starring Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace. Cirque du Soleil and Muppets At the Oscars: Today the Academy announced that Cirque du Soleil will perform a brand-new number during the Oscars. In 2002, the acrobatic dancers performed at the coveted awards’ in front of scenes from Charlie’s Angels and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. But if you’re not excited to see some acrobatic dancers via television, how about the Muppets? According to OK Magazine, they’ll be there too.
The Jenji Kohan/Netflix Project: According to Bloomberg, Netflix is adding a second project to it’s programming experiment. This time, the streaming giant will produce an adaptation of Piper Kerman’s popular 2010 prison memoir Orange Is the New Black from “Weeds” creator Jenji Kohan. Oh no! Does this means “Weeds” is officially over?
Mad Men Details: At the BAFTA’s, Jon Hamm told a reporter that a relationship between Jon Draper and Joan Holloway might be explored in the upcoming season. Mad Men returns March 25, and according to Hamm, we’ll be “exploring” the “Don-Joan dynamic.”
Tomorrowland Opportunity: Tomorrowland and Talenthouse, along with photographer, Ryan Dinham are looking for the next photographer for the 2012 Tomorrowland Festival in Belgium. Sundance 2012: End of Love – Movie Review

I think I officially have my Sundance 2012 dramatic crush: Mark Webber. End of Love is a heartstring-pulling film with amazing performances and hilarious cameos. Built on the father-son relationship between Webber and his son (in real life) Isaac Love, this largely improvisational film captures with astounding realism a story of a struggling actor in LA, grieving, broke, and trying to be a father to his son.

Synopsis:

Mark is on the verge of losing everything. He’s an out-of-work actor at the end of his rope; exhausted and heart-broken. Down to his last dollars and begging his roommates for a little more time, he’s not unlike many Americans. But he is also grappling with the serious emotional trauma of losing the mother of his son. This film follows his desperation and humiliation as he tries to father his son, to find romantic and platonic emotional support, and to be a successful adult.

The Good:

It’s really unbelievable that this was improvisation. At the Q&A following the screening, Mark Webber explained that he never told Isaac what to say; that they let him say what he wanted to say, and he and the cast adjusted and followed his lead. It just worked out….AND HOW. There are moments when the dialogue and action between the father and son is so unbelievably perfect for the moment that it just breaks the heart.

There’s also a pretty amazing party scene with Michael Cera, Aubrey Plaza, Alia Shawkat, and a bunch of other actors I assume are his friends. It’s funny and whacky.

The Bad:

I was a little disappointed with the fact that the protagonist (Mark) doesn’t progress that much. He manages to take one step forward, and granted, it’s a big step, but I expected more from a feature like this. He also explained during the Q&A that the reason why he chose this topic and made this film was because he wanted to tell the story of what it’s like to be at the end of a relationship; that when a major relationship ends, it feels like a death (his actual ex and mother of his son, Frankie Shaw, is also in the movie as his dead wife). These things considered, I can see how some might find this film self-indulgent.

Overall:

The dynamic between father and son, and the sheer serendipity of how the dialogue and story progresses is really absorbing and worth watching. Sad, but enjoyable…

One of the most emotional and touching films of this year’s Sundance Film Festival is The End of Love. This is one of those films that sits with you long after you’ve left the theater and doesn’t let you go. It’s a beautiful representation of what a look at one mans story in a very simple way can be represented.

Sundance Synopsis:

Mark is a struggling actor stuck between the life he once knew and the one waiting for him. When the mother of his two-year-old son suddenly passes away, Mark is forced to confront his shortcomings. Their fates, now intertwined, hang in the balance as Mark grapples with his ability to grow up. When he meets Lydia, a young mother, he is no longer able to live in the comfort of denial.

The Good:

The Relationship: Webber and his son are beautiful to watch on screen together. There’s really no other way to show the true love between father and child than by showing just that. Using toddlers on set is one of the most difficult things in the world, but for this film, used in this way, it not only works for the film, it makes it.
The Simplicity: This is not an outwardly complicated story, the complications are in the natural drama that comes from human emotions. Because of simplicity, you’re able to focus on the minute which makes this film a truly beautiful experience all around, proving that you don’t need a giant spectacle to have an impact on audiences.
The Heart: This is something that you can’t manipulate out of a film, it’s just something that’s there or it’s not. This film is packed with heart and it emotes from the screen giving you everything you you could hope for in a drama.

The Bad:

Not really feeling anything.

Overall:

This is an amazingly simple and yet introspective film that is well worth settling into.

Amanda Seyfried and Taylor Swift Rumored for Les Miserables

With a December 7, 2012 release date, Les Miserables is about to lock down its cast, and the latest rumored cast members are Amanda Seyfried and Taylor Swift. They could be joining Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, and Sacha Baron Cohen in Tom Hooper‘s follow-up to his Oscar winning The King’s Speech.

Amanda Seyfried’s been offered Cosette, who’s the daughter of Fantine (Hathaway). Because of the epic sprawl of the story Cosette appears ten years later (basically we get to skip her growing up). Hence the casting. Swift is up for Eponine, who enters into a love triangle with Cosette, and their battling affections for Marius (who’s to be played by Eddie Redmayne, currently blanding it up in My Week with Marilyn).

Hooper has recently talked about recording the singing live on the sets. I believe the last person who tried that was Peter Bogdanovich with his bomb At Long Last Love. Perhaps it will work better for Hooper. Having won Oscar glory Hooper was in the position to make what he wanted, and so he took a long hoped for play to the big screen. It’s a bold choice for a follow up, and could reveal genius or hubris – possibly both. Shooting should start shortly.

Will anyone joke that the film is a remake of The Fugitive?

Amanda Seyfried steps into the Jodie Foster/Ashley Judd role in Gone, which hits theaters 2012. In the film Seyfried plays a girl who survived a serial killer, and when she’s out late the killer comes back and mistakenly takes her sister. She’s got twelve hours to find her sister, but it’s also possible that it’s all in her head. Could it be her, or cast members Jennifer Carpenter, Wes Bentley or Sebastian Stan? Check out the trailer…

It’s been a while since a good serial killer movie had made an impression on the box office – perhaps it’s the popularity of CSI, and all those types of shows that deal with similar sorts of criminal behaviors in 42 minutes. So it’s quite possible that this will hit audiences who aren’t used to seeing a thriller theatrically.

Of course, this looks cheap, and the reason why these films have dwindled is because you need to have a great hook, and actors people want to see terrorized. Of late Amanda Seyfried was supposed to be the next big thing, but she’s never kicked into gear, and Mamma Mia! hit more because of the play and Meryl Streep than her. If this works for her, it could help.

Remember when Lindsay Lohan was all set to play Deep Throat porn star Linda Lovelace in Matthew Wilder’s Lovelace biopic Inferno, but it was decided she was actually to low-class to carry such a film? Well, Wilder rebounded, nabbing Malin Akerman for the role. But now Inferno has something else to worry about—competition.

It turns out that there is another Lovelace biopic in the works (Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s cleverly titled Lovelace), with a much more prominent star in the form of Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace, and Peter Sarsgaard as her abusive husband/ alleged pimp, Chuck Traynor.

Inferno isn’t the only production to have casting difficulty, as Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard are replacing the previously cast Kate Hudson and James Franco, and even then, Kate Hudson was a replacement for Olivia Wilde. So everyone wants to play Linda Lovelace, apparently.

For those of you who don’t know, Linda Lovelace was a porn star who starred in the famous adult film Deep Throat, which reached mainstream popularity in 1972. Lovelace later abandoned her adult film career and began to denounce the porn industry as a dangerous and abusive environment for women.

Interview: Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Catherine Hardwicke Talk Red Riding Hood

Last week we sat with a number of the filmmakers and actors of the latest tween adventure, Red Riding Hood (read review now). We has the opportunity to attend a press conference for the film in which the director Catherine Hardwicke, the overly talented one Gary Oldman who never seems to sensor himself with Charlie Sheen jokes and all, and the gorgeous and witty Amanda Seyfried spoke about making the movie and how her eyes scored her the part…

Gary, when you play these men possessed, do you ever have to reign yourself in, or can you go over the top and be an actor possessed?

GO: Well, I hope I’m not an actor possessed. And if I were, then I have Catherine here to reign me in. I mean, it depends what you’re playing but this is a fairy tale, albeit a dark twist on an already dark tale, but it is a fantasy so you can push the limits a bit in something like this. I mean, I think Solomon is, I viewed him as very sort of Shakespearean.

Amanda, did the love triangle or the darker version of the tale attract you?

AS: Actually, the thing that attracted me to this movie was – - I actually didn’t read the script before I met Catherine. She had crazy visuals to show me so I thought how difficult it is to make this old timeless tale into a full length movie, and she had these great ideas. Then I met with Leonardo DiCaprio and that was it.

How did Leonardo DiCaprio get involved as a producer?

AS: I don’t know.

GO: It was his idea. I believe so. It was Leonardo’s idea. I think he was looking for something for his company and was sitting down with Lucas Haas and said, “Hey, what about Red Riding Hood. We haven’t done that.” One of the few we haven’t done.

Amanda, how do you define your character? Do you think of her as sexually precocious, a 20th century girl in the black forest 500 years ago?

AS: Well, I think the first direction I had was – - well, I separated from the usual damsel in distress which is in most fairy tales, to somebody that’s completely not in distress at all. She’s this young, strong female that’s going through her life and realizing her sexuality and kind of trying to navigate herself through young adult life in this medieval village. So that’s how I kind of wanted to start playing it. Of course, she’s the heroine in the movie. It centers on her so she needs to have balls. That was really attractive because I like playing women that have just no fear, especially in the circumstances. She’s pretty brave.

Is she a modern woman?

AS: Well, yeah, and we added majorly contemporary elements to it like a love triangle and the coming of age element to it. It’s very contemporary how she’s dealing with her parents and the man she loves and the man that she was [betrothed to], yeah. Right, Catherine? She knows how to work a good coming of age story. You obviously are connected to that youthful kind of essence. You just know how to design that.

Catherine can you talk about what inspired the sexy, Renaissance spontaneous dance scene?

CH: Well, I’ve been to Burning Man. It’s pretty awesome and it really does hearken back to medieval times. It’s very tribal and exciting and burning effigies so David had this festival in the script and I’m like oh great, this will be fun. I’m going to go to town on this. So we came up with this whole dance. Our choreographer, Sarah Elgart, tried to create a dance that could be old and new at the same time. We looked at the paintings of Bruegel and Bosch that were painted at the same time period, but there was like abandonment like crazy cod pieces and people were just wild and sexy. They weren’t like Victorian age, so we said okay, this is license to make a super sexy fun pagan ritual and we went for it.

Amanda, talk about telling the story with Julie Christie and putting on the hood the first time?

AS: We had to use that and it didn’t seem to fit in any place except for something that was sort of like a dream. I think it works really well because that’s the iconic piece of the narrative. To do it with Julie Christie with prosthetics, big teeth and huge pupils, it was really cool the way we did it and we kind of used that lens where you just focus in on one thing. I think that’s the only way we could have done it really that would’ve worked and didn’t feel kind of stupid that we just threw it in there because we had to. It was just perfectly designed.

What was it like putting on the hood for the first time?

AS: Then putting the cape on for the first time, yeah. It was kind of a big deal when the cape came onto the set because it’s its own character because it’s the most iconic piece of the story. Then after a while it wasn’t really a big deal. I just got sick of it because it’s really heavy. It was so beautifully designed. It took a lot of time to make that cape really beautiful.

CH: There was like a sewing circle like 14 ladies in Vancouver that embroidered all the details on it. We really want it to have a lot of heart and soul.

AS: And it did.

Was there just one?

CH: Well, there was one main one that had everything and then there was like the backup cape.

AS: And then my stand-in wore like a half cape.

GO: A half cape for close-ups?

AS: No just to stand in literally, for standing in, like a half cape. It came down to her and her arms came out.

GO: I thought you meant only from the top up because Richard Burton, when he was playing Henry VIII, he would have what he’d call his going home trousers on. So he’d have normal clothes on because he wanted to get up quick to the pub, but he was Henry VIII from the waist up because it was close-ups. That’s what I thought you meant.

AS: No, I’m not that clever.

CH: She had leggings on underneath.

GO: You’re professional. You’ve got the whole thing.

AS: No, I have to be 100%, you know me.

Catherine, what did you see in Amanda, and the male suitors?

CH: Right, well actually really Amanda’s the only person I thought of for this part because I had been taken with her. One time she spoke at an autism benefit and she just said some simple words, but I just jumped up and she drew me in and was quite amazing. So I’ve been watching her in all these other parts and I saw she could be funny in Mean Girls and charming in this and sexy in Chloe and I’m like, man, that chick can do anything. I really thought what big eyes you have I guess. That’s one reason I thought of Amanda.

AS: I’ve got the biggest eyes in the business right now, between 17 and 25.

CH: So we measured her and she won.

GO: [Muffled so hard to hear ] I bet Charlie Sheen’s would measure bigger… [Laughter]

GO: The camera adores you. Always, every time we see you on the screen, you go oh my God, look at that face.

CH: I know. That’s kind of looks like a fairy tale I thought. Then the whole idea, once we had Amanda, is how do you find two guys that have that equal appeal but the chemistry works with the two guys so we started the search.

AS: 15,000 men line up.

CH: A chance to make out with Amanda Seyfried.

AS: I did make a joke about that last night on Kimmel. I said that literally they just came in one by one, I opened my mouth, we made out. Which is not really that false.

CH: Different from what actually happened.

Gary, how do you bring the reality to fantastic stories?

GO: Well, the reality is what is really on the page. I don’t really work too far away from the framework of the script. I think if something is well written, it gives you the clues and the answers are there. I always think that if something isn’t well written, then you’re working too hard and you know that you’re working hard. But they all each have sort of a different approach. I mean, the characters that you play, they all set up their own sort of particular hurdles that you jump over. This to me is Dracula light, I think. Yeah? You know, he’s a cousin of… But good words, that’s your map of the world. So it was a very defined character on the page to begin with so all the clues were there.

Wasn’t the original story a metaphor for losing virginity? Are we missing that her?

GO: I think probably, I had this conversation with someone, if this wasn’t a PG-13 then I think all those things that are kind of there if you want to look for them, I think you could’ve gone further with them if this was for an adult audience. You’ve got to remember that 14, 15-year-old kids are going to be watching this. But I think yeah, to me it’s about a little bit of S&M.

CH: Cannibalism?

GO: A bit of incest.

AS: There’s a lot of incest. You could find that if you look for it.

GO: And it is a dark story that I think most of us – - I mean, I can’t remember how young I was when I heard it. I was so small I can’t remember. Maybe this was a way of I think protecting your kids. You told them these stories so they wouldn’t wander off. I mean, if there was a modern day equivalent, 21st century, maybe it’s a predator on the internet.

I thought it was a cautionary tale to young girls against rolling in the hay.

AS: I don’t know, I don’t think it’s going to keep girls from rolling in the hay. I think it’s going to make it really attractive, even more attractive than it already is.

CH: But it is about getting in touch with your dark side.

AS: Or just not ignoring your sexual impulses.

CH: And then finding the right way, or a way to act on them…. That’s the thing in fairy tales. You actually do confront your dark side, your impulses or your feelings of sibling rivalry in Cinderella or whatever. You admit that they exist and then you work through them and conquer them and come out living happily ever after having learned something. That’s one reason why the fairy tales keep having traction and meaning.

Well there you have it. Lots of sexual innuendos and pretty people talking — if you’re into this then you should definitely check out Red Riding Hood in theaters, now (started March 11th)!

Amanda Seyfried is Joined by Wickersham, Bentley, and Carpenter in Gone

Hot off the heels of roles in Red Riding Hood and Now, Amanda Seyfried has signed on to star in another thriller and according to Variety, she’s not alone! The trade reports that Seyfried will star in a film called Gone, alongside Wes Bentley (Where has he been hiding?), Jennifer Carpenter, and Emily Wickersham. Find out more about the film’s story below…

Gone will be produced and distributed by Summit Entertainment, who seem to be the one stop shop for Seyfried’s films lately. Their press release states that the movie centers on “a kidnap survivor who attempts to find the same killer whom she believes has abducted her sister.”It sounds like someone has a family vendetta. Seyfried signed on for Gone back in February and this week a trio of actors joined her.

The roles of Bentley, Carpenter, and Wickersham haven’t been specified but we have a feeling that Bentley’s character isn’t on the up and up. That guy always looks like he’s into something dangerous. The last film we saw him in was Jonah Hex, where he once again played a shady character. Bentley’s a sneaky devil.

The adolescent not-so-Little-Red-Riding-Hood is back in a brand new trailer for Catherine Hardwicke’s sexed up adaptation. Red Riding features Amanda Seyfried as the title character who goes on that daunting journey to grandma’s house. In this version, there’s sex, violence, some gore, and did we mention sex? What’s that doing in this anyway? Check out the trailer…

The script for Red Riding Hood was written by David Leslie Johnson, who previously penned the screenplay for the horror flick Orphan. This version of Little Red Riding Hood is supposed to be a darker and more adult take on the story. Besides Seyfried, the cast includes Gary Oldman, Lukas Haas, Virginia Madsen, Billy Burke, Shiloh Fernandez, and Julie Christie as the grandmother (we’re still mad she signed on for this).

This isn’t our cup of tea. It looks just like the first Twilight movie but without the vampires. Hardwicke is obviously still living in the past. She’s gotta let it go. And what’s with her obsession with taking stories and filling them with sexual angst? Enough is enough already.

A new poster has been released for the Catherine Hardwicke directed feature Red Riding Hood. The film is based on the popular children’s story of the same name that centers on a young girl, who attempts to avoid a dangerous wolf while traveling to her grandmother’s house. Detailed Plot Synopsis:

Seyfried plays Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life.

Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. As panic grips the town, Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast–one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect…and bait.

Last week we saw some scans from Entertainment Weekly that featured Amanda Seyfried as the title character in Catherine Hardwicke’s latest film, Red Riding Hood. Yes, we’re talking about the same Catherine Hardwicke who directed the first Twilight movie but we shouldn’t hold that against her. Or should we? The first trailer for Red Riding Hood has been released and so has the official poster. Take a look…

The script for Red Riding Hood was written by David Leslie Johnson, who previously penned the screenplay for the horror flick Orphan. This version of Little Red Riding Hood is supposed to be a darker and more adult take on the story. Besides Seyfried, the cast includes Gary Oldman, Lukas Haas, Virginia Madsen, Billy Burke (no surprise there), Shiloh Fernandez, and Julie Christie as the grandmother.

Unfortunately, this looks like Little Red Riding Hood meets Twilight and that’s not a good combination. Besides the fact that the main character is a female who wears a red hood there aren’t that many similarities to the original story. Granted there are various incarnations of the tale but this one is definitely not one of the more mainstream versions. Are we once again finding ourselves watching a Hardwicke movie that centers on a young women in a love triangle with a possible werewolf?

Detailed Plot Synopsis:

Seyfried plays Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life.

Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. As panic grips the town, Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast–one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect…and bait.
