Woody Allen‘s highly mysterious (and rightfully so) film Midnight in Paris has made its way back from Cannes and will be appearing in theaters in America this weekend. For me, this is one of my favorite Woody Allen films in a long time. It’s not necessarily what you would expect from Allen, though it does follow certain patterns we’ve come to know from him and one can definitely see references to his earlier work. There’s something both nostalgic and yet fresh about the film that makes it fun to watch. It’s finely made, finely acted and overall a fine picture to find yourself at this weekend…

The Players:

Director/Writer: Woody Allen

Actors: Owen Wilson, Tom Hiddleston, Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen, Marion Cotillard, Adrien Brody, Alison Pill, Kathy Bates, Corey Stoll

Cinematography by: Darius Khondji

The Plot:

Mightnight in Paris is romantic comedy with a twist (that will not be given away in this review). The film starts with a couple traveling to the French capital for business and their different reactions to the world around them. The party includes a young engaged couple forced to confront the illusion that a life different from their own is better.

The Good:

The Acting: For me Corey Stoll who plays Ernest (no need for a last name here) steals the show. He does a fantastic job of bringing his character to life in a fun and lively way. Wilson is one of Allen’s best leads in a while, mainly because he’s so NOT Woody Allen like. His laid back persona allows you to watch a Woody Allen film without watching Woody Allen. Michael Sheen, brilliant as an American playing an anglophile. Alison Pill, Kathy Bates, Tom Hiddleston (I’m just listing the cast now) and all the rest all gave wonderful and surprising performances.

The Concept: Without giving anything away, it’s a bit far-fetched and not something entirely new, but the way that Allen handles the idea with such a nonchalance is really quite fun.

The Scenery: Allen and his cinematographer Darius Khondji really do an amazing job of capturing the feel, almost the smell of Paris in the spring time. They take their time establishing the location, light the scenes in a way that makes everyone and everything glow, and use some classic music to help you take it all in. Really well done.

The So-So:

Not Broad: This is not a film for everyone, and without giving too much away, you need to have a certain amount of knowledge of art history and literature and desire to know more about it in order to really find the film amusing. If you’re a nerd like me, it’s a blast and really fun to see so many well known faces, as well known names on the big screen.

Allen Cliches: It’s hard not to see patterns repeating themselves, it’s up to you whether you see that as good or bad. I for one didn’t mind them, in fact I rather enjoyed them, others may easily have a different opinion and one I can understand, just not relate to.

Overall:

This was a really interesting film and if you have any knowledge of literature or art your will definitely appreciate the references and find it humorous. It’s one of Allen’s better films of late, it’s extremely well made and the acting is superb. It was really a pleasant, fun experience to sit down to, and one well worth watching,

Rating: 7.3/10

Midnight in Paris will be in theaters starting May 20th!

The search for the next Abraham Lincoln is upon us. No, we’re not talking about for the long awaited Steven Spielberg biopic (Daniel Day-Lewis got that job), we’re referring to the campy Tim Burton produced horror flick, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. That’s a movie we’d all like to see, right? According to Deadline, several actors are currently testing for the title role in the film including Adrien Brody, Timothy Olyphant, and Josh Lucas.

Brody, Olyphant, and Lucas are the most recognizable out of the Lincoln candidates, which includes a mix of stage and international actors such as Benjamin Walker, James D’Arcy, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen. Out of this bunch, Brody looks the most like Lincoln, but with a little help Lucas could easily pull it off as well. Olyphant might be a stretch and the other guys seem too young, or too awkward for the part. What do you think?

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a fictionalized creation of the former U.S President which mixes historical events with fantasy. The book was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who is known for his ability to blend classic figures and properties with old school horror elements. In the book and the film Lincoln is re-imagined as an axe-throwing, highly trained vampire assassin.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is scheduled to hit theaters on June 22, 2012.

Who do you think should play the role? Who would be the best fit?

Back in October we reported that Oscar winning actor Adrien Brody was in the fight of his life. Well, maybe not of his life but he’s been dealing with some hardcore legal issues regarding one of his films. The actor appeared in a Dario Argento feature called Giallo in 2008 but never received payment for his work. Therefore, he took the filmmaker and his producers to court requesting that they ban all DVD sales or promotions that feature the actor’s image in the movie. According to AP, the law sided with Brody and the film’s release has been stopped in the States.

According to Brody, he was never paid his salary of $640,000 for starring in the film. He claims that after a week of filming Giallo he learned producers Richard Rionda and Rafael Primorac had failed to deposit a portion of his fee into an escrow account as required in his contract. In order to keep his concerns at bay, they gave him a little leverage. They made a new agreement that “expressly granted the absolute right to withhold consent to the use of his likeness in the picture until he was paid the full amount of the $640,000 that he deferred.”

U.S. District Judge Dale S. Fischer issued a ruling on Monday that keeps the makers of Giallo from distributing, marketing or selling the film in the US. Congrats Brody!

What do you think of the judge’s ruling? Did he make the right choice?

They made a new agreement that “expressly granted the absolute right to withhold consent to the use of his likeness in the picture until he was paid the full amount of the $640,000 that he deferred.”

The film was made in 2008 and Brody never got his money. He can’t necessarily stop the movie from being sold but he can stop them from using his image without his permission. He’s contacted a Federal judge and asked them to stop the DVD for that reason. He’s been going back and forth with the producers since March attempting to recoup his pay but to no avail.

On Friday, the judge denied the Plaintiff’s emergency motion for a restraining order, so the Court will not issue an injunction in time to prevent the DVD release tomorrow. It could still conceivably order the producers to take the movie off the shelves at a later date, though a more likely outcome is a confidential settlement and dismissal of the lawsuit before the Court has a chance to act.

It sounds like Brody got screwed out a chunk of money because he had faith in the wrong people. Seeing that most of us have never heard of Giallo we doubt that it will make an obscene amount on DVD. The only publicity it’s gotten thus far involves this legal dispute.

Do you think Brody is right to sue?

Last week we reported on Alice Eve’s decision to leave Fox’s upcoming X-Men First Class prequel. Even though she left because of script issues, the studio still wants her to stay under their umbrella. There’s a rumor that she might be up for the role of Susan Storm aka The Invisible Woman in their Fantastic Four reboot, which might be hard considering another attractive blond is up for the part — Amber Heard.

According to ComicBookMovie, Heard has met with Fox executives multiple times in regards to starring in Fantastic Four but nothing has been solidified. At the moment their solely concentrating on their production of X-Men First Class. If she landed the role, she would be picking up where Jessica Alba (worst casting ever!) left off in 2007′s Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Next in line is a report from Screenrant that centers on Susan’s other half, Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic. They claim that Adrien Brody, who recently beefed up for his stint in Predators, has a shot at taking over the role which was previously played by Ioan Gruffudd. We all know that Brody can play nerdy and aloof, plus he has the tall, lanky body type to pull off Reed’s over the top stretchy scenes.

The direction that Fox is going with this bothers me. Isn’t Sue Storm supposed to be the mature reasonable member of the Fantastic Four crew? Her brother Bobby is the self-centered one, The Thing has a temper problem, and Reed is sometimes so into his work that everything goes over his head. Can you see Amber Heard as the one person who keeps them all in check? I can’t.

Years ago, prior to the first Fantastic Four, Charlize Theron always seemed like the right choice to play Susan. Physically she fit the part, and I could take her seriously in the somewhat maternal role. The studio seems to be going after “hot actresses” as opposed to “hot actresses who are right for the part.” This is the problem I had with Jessica Alba, Kate Bosworth in Superman Returns, and most recently the casting of Blake Lively in Green Lantern. Will they ever learn?

Who do you think should play Sue and Reed in the new Fantastic Four?

Finally someone knows how to execute a real action film! One that has your heart racing from start to end, has you jumping in your seats, rooting for the characters and kick-ass fight scenes with ever weapon imaginable. Nimród Antal and Robert Rodriguez team up to form one bad-ass sequel worthy of the Predator name with their new film Predators.

Check out the full review on how they made this movie a success below…

The Players:

Director: Nimród Antal

Written By: Alex Litvak and Michael Finch

Characters by: Jim Thomas and John Thomas

Producer: Robert Rodriguez, Elizabeth Avellan, John Davis

Actors: Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, Louis Ozawa Changchien

The Plot:

A group of elite warriors are hunted by members of a merciless alien race known as Predators.

The Good:

Jump Start: The opening shot of this movie is pure awesome-ness and sets the pace for the entire film. What a better way to jump into a world than to literally jump into a world?! From the first moment of the film they get your heart pumping and it doesn’t let up until the credits roll.

The Minimal Dialogue: This isn’t the type of film that we want to listen to people talk in, this is a serious action film. With minimal explanation and a few fun actiony one-liners, it does what it needs to, leaves the talking to a minimum and constantly moves from one moment to the next.

Fight Scenes: They literally have just about every type of fight scene you love in one film. They use guns, bombs, swords, poison, basically anything they could get their hands on to bring you something fun. The fight scenes are full of suspense and exhilarating to watch.

Camera Movement: Nimród uses the camera to make the audience feel like they’re a part of the on screen world and proves that you don’t need 3D glasses to do it (take that Cameron!). He uses some great POV shots that make you feel like you’re running and jumping with the pack which as a result make you feel more invested in the story. Great camera work!

Tone: This is probably the first good serious action film of the summer. We’ve had a number of playful action films (The A-Team, The Losers) but this one isn’t fucking around, it takes its action and story seriously and you can feel it in the audience.

Cliches: So many films try to surprise you with scary moments. For example: Normally you see someone about to open a door, the music builds, they open it, nothing is there, the music stops and then BAM! Something is behind them. This film goes back to old-fashioned scare techniques. The things that you think will scare you will scare you! It’s such a refreshing and fun experience to go through. It makes you feel like you’re a kid again.

The Bad:

Few Moments of Over-Acting: For this kind of film it’s hard not to have these moments and they did a good job at avoiding them, but they were still there.

Scare Factor: There were some great scary moments, but there could have been a bit more. It was like a taco with pico de gallo, it’s good, but it doesn’t quite have the spice you want. There are definitely a couple of good jumps, but it might have been nice to have a couple more.

Overall:

Great action, tons of fun, well executed, solid cast, great summer-action flick. Get some popcorn and get ready for the ride!

Rating: 8.5/10

Check out Predators in theaters July 9th!

This weekend director Nimród Antal and producer Robert Rodriguez bring the action packed adventure sequel Predators to the big screen (forget that whole Alien Vs. Predator nonsense, this is a real Predator film), only this time they have Adrien Brody as the super buff lead and and Walton Goggins in toe packed with rude jokes.

Of course we had to start off the press conference with something about Brody’s buff-ness, to which he gave a very actor-y response (as all good actors doing an action film do). Walton had a number of fun stories to chip in. Despite just watching Brody kick ass in the role as Royce before the press conference, in person he was soft spoken, charming, and seemed to approach the physicality in this film, much like he would the emotional transformation in another.

Check our interview with both actors or listen to the whole press conference below…

You probably have gotten quite a few questions about getting into the physical shape to play Royce, but I’m wondering about the process to get into his head. Or was that inseparable from the physical?

Adrien Brody: Um. Thank you for, yes, pointing out there is more to it than physical abilities. You know they do go hand in hand. It is an interesting thing and it’s always surprising to me how much of it is an emotional, psychological transformation ensues with the physical transformation. I experienced that with The Pianist. Obviously, if you feel strong and look good, your confidence level grows and vice versa. In addition to feeling strong, I had restricted my diet in a way, and kind of my lifestyle, in an effort to kind of harness everything that I had in my power to be ferocious and keep that contained. For the first time since college, I had lifted really heavy weights to put on size. I think that is a very different workout process that I’m used to, and that creates additional testosterone – your body chemistry changes. I spent a lot of time cultivating the qualities I felt Royce would possess – that put him in a leadership position. I poured over military manuals and field guides and even read – it is interesting…

Walton Goggins: Stans, on the other hand, he digressed. He just read Playboy… Just sitting in prison. You know, it’s interesting – the thing about the physicality for actors – you have to think about it and once you kind of get that down, then the rest of it starts to kind of fall into place. For me, Stan is the guy who is incarcerated for the better part of the 20 years, and I didn’t really think about this until I got there… And so, I guess my preparation was almost the antithesis of Adrien’s in that this is a guy who has never been in the woods, much less the jungle… So my physical preparation was the lack of physical preparation, which was really interesting for me as an actor. That had never happened before.

Adrien, we just learned you were up for a different role before you got this role. It also seems that your more recent roles are different. Are you trying to redefine yourself as an actor?

AB: It’s surprised to me sometimes when people are surprised at my choices. It seems that they are more surprised as of late. As an actor, I have made a conscious decision to do my best to not repeat myself so that I keep it interesting – the process – for myself and for the people that have seen my work. I have looked long and hard for an opportunity like this and it’s not something that I just decided upon lately. It’s a challenge, I think, when you establish yourself as a certain type of actor or an actor that has not has an opportunity to be seen in a physical role like this or an action film and to win the endorsement of a studio, which I understand is making practical business decisions as well, and I am grateful that I had the support of Robert initially and in Nimrod.

There was interest in another role that didn’t appeal to me. I look at this as an opportunity to do something really special within a type of film that I love, and that I feel sometimes historically Hollywood has had an over reliance on physical brawn as a way to portray a strong man, but that strength has to come from within. I felt that it was very important, especially in today’s audiences with young people, we are all, unfortunately, very familiar with what young soldiers look like and they are not dissimilar to my build. I think military leadership comes from a tactical and technical confidence and skill set and an intellectual strength and a self-reliance, and all these qualities that do make him a leader.

And yes, I did feel like I had to make a physical transformation because I think on one level it is exciting for an audience to see that and I like to see that. I like to see, even if the character is villainous, a heroic character look strong, but I didn’t want to rely on that transformation for me to convey what I feel is necessary in portraying a leading man in a film. It’s a big coup for me. It’s a big deal for me. I’m very protective of this material because I’m a big fan of the original. I’m also respectful to fans and I wanted to give them what they wanted, and hopefully elevate the material as well.

Q: For each of you, was there a moment that was particularly challenging during filming?

WG: I don’t know that there wasn’t a day that wasn’t challenging. Honestly, I mean the movie started off in Hawaii and it was, you know, 95 degrees and 89% humidity, so we were all soaking wet for most of the day. Where we were filming, I think the biggest predators that aren’t seen in this movie are the mosquitoes.

AB: Yes.

WG: And you can’t really sit down. Everybody is uncomfortable. It is very hard to work in a situation like that. And not just for the actors, but for the crew. It is very difficult to set shots up. Then we left Hawaii and went back to Austin where is was warm for two days and then it dropped down into 40s, to the 30s, and to the 20s, but you have to match the movie so we were soaking wet. We would get sprayed down before every take when it is 20 degrees outside. It was very physically challenging, I think, for all of us. Adrien had it the worst.

Were there any scenes you shot that might end up on the DVD release of the film? Also, is there any possibility of a sequel? Did you discuss with your surviving costar where the characters might go?

AB: Well, you know, I think a lot of that is determined by the success of the film and I don’t think that far ahead. I think the idea of reprising a role and going further into that character sounds interesting to me and isn’t something I’ve had the opportunity to do. It would be exciting to watch a character progress or deteriorate. That’s exciting for an actor and I thoroughly enjoyed playing Royce. Again, part of the attraction is I’m often drawn to material that affects me on an emotional level and the characters are dealing with things that are challenging and that I would question and things that I’m not necessarily familiar with. What I loved about Royce was that he had this emotional hardness that most of the characters that I’ve played don’t come close to possessing, and that’s an interesting state of mind to cultivate and stay in.

And what about deleted scenes?

AB: Deleted scenes. It is hard. I’m sure there is stuff that didn’t end up in the film. I’m sure there will be things. I’ve seen it once and I was kind of awestruck at both loving the film and having this, simultaneously, being so proud to be in it. I was so excited. It brought me back to being a child and watching Predator and being like, “I love this fucking movie.” Then, “That’s me! In it!” It was so, so exciting. It was a gift when I saw it, so I kind of wasn’t dissecting it. I was looking for where we might screw up. I didn’t dissect it.

WG: You know there are casualties, scene casualties, in kind of everything that you do and things that you were pretty proud of on the day, and you may have seen a cut version of it that don’t make the film, but will be on the DVD. I think that was kind of across the board, scenes here and there. There was one scene for Stans that I was really disappointed that didn’t make it, but I understand why. It will make the DVD. It was a scene where Stans goes up to Alice Braga’s character and it’s very funny and kind of like heartwarming, and it just basically makes a pitch that we’re going to die, I know we’re going to die, and I haven’t had sex with a girl in a long time. Please, can I at least just kiss you? You know, and she just shuts him down and just walks away. But, it was very funny.

AB: But it was not as polite as he is saying. Believe me.

Adrien, you talked about being a big fan of the movie. Can you talk about your first experience seeing it?

AB: I was probably 14, opening weekend, smoking cigarettes in the front row in Queens. I remember the theater, I remember one of my really good friends who was with me, and probably the other two kids. My little crew. Whatever, we were there opening weekend and doing our Schwarzenegger impressions for the rest of the week. It had a profound impact on me as an adolescent.

Continuing with that, there was certainly a very fine line, or can be, between action hero and camp and you have spoken a lot about characters who have a lot of emotional resonance. At any point, did you want to push it into the camp?

AB: Of course! It’s tempting under the circumstances. You have to really have a lot of self-control. Always, always as an actor you have to reign it in because sometimes, you know, even having a sense of humor about certain things can distract you from having a cleaner, purer character. Obviously, certain films require it and are fun. I did a very broad comedy called High School where I played this Francis Ford Coppola of the weed growing industry. That character is as broad as it gets. Again, I felt that it was important that that character be intimidating, as well, even though it was very comical. It is a fine line. You have opportunities with certain lines that, you know, you have to be playful with, but for the most part you need to reign it in and be sincere. You can’t just – you can’t be an external thing or else it feels like an external thing, unless that’s the whole tone of something you are doing, but that hasn’t appealed to me just yet. I haven’t found a role that spoke to me like that.

You know Arnold Schwarzenegger loved saying “Hasta la vista, baby.” You know he did.

WG: Yeah. Absolutely.

AB: It’s a tonal thing. I think this is a darker storyline. Like I said, there is room to keep things entertaining and there is room for moments of lightness and playfulness with the work. But again, the general theme here is to be rooted in reality and create a sense of constant threat level and constant looming over all of us. I think, you know, it’s not meant to be that.

WG: But there are many one-liners in this movie, as well. Stan’s line, “Die you space faggot.” You gotta say that and sell it! And, yeah, I had a great time saying it! [laughs] I had a great time saying, “Your ass is awesome.” Great time saying, “I can’t wait to get home and do a bunch of cocaine.” But, tonally, it kind of fits in the story and you kind of pick your places, and hopefully you don’t wink at the audience unless that’s what’s required.

One of the many things I love about this movie was all the blood, sweat, and grime. It is something you don’t see that in big, summer movies like back in the 80’s. I am wondering if the actors would discuss how grimy and sweaty they got?

AB: He got pretty grimy. There were bugs. I would stay away from him because there would be swarms of insects coming to the stage blood. That blood is sugar based and he was covered in it.

WG: Stans gets his ass kicked by pretty much everything on the planet. Look, you’re actors getting the opportunity to be on an alien planet and get chased by predators. What greater situation can an actor find himself in? So yeah, I think there was a lot of joy in, “Let’s bring it on!” This isn’t about looking pretty! You know? Let’s get chased. I think we reveled in it. I think we – I did – I took a lot of enjoyment out of it.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD ON WALTON’S CHARACTERS LINES!

By the time you start talking about how much raping you were going to do, I think the audience is waiting to see what sort of death comes to you from the Predator. Were you sort of building up to making us want that? Were you trying to create a character where the audience takes joy in how he gets it?

WG: You know, it’s funny that was your reaction. I think, for me, I’ve made four movies with my partner, so I’m very aware of what it’s like to take an audience through an experience being behind the camera. For me, what was so important about that scene in particular, from a filmmaker’s stand point and then from an actor’s stand point, was it was the first time in the movie where everyone’s kind of quiet and the people that are left are in a fox hole, and you are able for a minute to just let the air out and kind of see these people – like observe these people – and I actually thought if I can make the audience think I’m going to say something sentimental and kind of lull them in a sense of, “You know, we are all in this together and I just can’t wait to get home and have a hamburger” and then he goes off, “I can’t wait to get home and do a bunch of cocaine!” [laughs] Because in his mind, he thinks, “You know what? I’m going to get off this planet and I’m going to be an even bigger celebrity when I get back home. There is no way they are going to put me back in jail.” For me, I looked at it as a…

AB: Delusion.

WG: Yeah! Yeah! And being a moment of comic relief for the audience to kind of sit back and laugh for a minute, and to kind of bring this team together in a very intimate setting. I’ll just say one other thing real quick. My struggle, or not struggle, but my blessing and curse as an actor has been from “The Shield” to a lot of things that I’ve done, have been to take someone on paper that the audience should hate immediately, and you know this guy and you will not like him, and then kind of turn it around and make you feel for him; make you laugh, let you in, and kinda paint him three dimensional. Yeah, you look for your place in a movie.

This is not a film you will soon forget. After seeing Splice all I could say when asked what I thought was, “I uhhh… wow.” The trailer makes it look like it was a scary, “jump out at you” type film — and although it has its moments — the film has no cheap scares but may mentally scar you forever. It’s safe to say, that this film goes for it full steam and reminds us all how fun it was to be surprised by quality film-making and a unique story.

If you ask me, the first few trailers for this film set you up to be a bit confused. You’re probably better off not paying attention to them and just taking my advice — if you like fucked up, well shot, well told films, you won’t find a better film than Splice.

The Players:

Director: Vincenzo Natali

Actors: Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley, Delphine Chanéac

Writers: Vincenzo Natali, Antoinette Terry Bryant, Doug Taylor

Cinematography by: Tetsuo Nagata

Special Effects: Jason Board

Music: Cyrille Aufort

The Good:

The Surprise: In most films now-a-days you can see the ending coming from a mile away, but not in Splice. At almost every step of the way I was so deeply interested in what was going on that I never even tried to predict the ending nor could have if I wanted to.

The Special Effects: The real challenge of the special effects in this film was making them look real. This wasn’t a world of make believe, this was supposed to happen in real life so the effects HAD to be perfect in order for the film to work – luckily they were amazing and despite being an indie film blew the special effects in the big blockbusters like Clash of the Titans out of the water.

Adrien Brody: I love it when successful actors like him take GIANT risks and play characters that do truly messed up things. Well played.

The Characters: The film wouldn’t have worked without having well developed characters who you felt invested in and intrigued by. Despite all of the insane things going on, you always have real characters for you to follow through and keep you connected to the film.

The Suspense: The music, the camera angles, the lighting everything all added up to an extremely suspenseful and interesting to watch film.

The Bad:

Some Plot Points: A Few times there were some plot points that felt a bit too convenient, but there was enough going on that you don’t really care and they’re easily forgivable.

The Good or Bad:

The Long Term Effects: Depending on who you are and what you want from a film, walking out of a theater feeling dirty may be a good or a bad thing. Certain things occur in the film that are just simply fucked up — there is no other way to say it. It’s safe to say that this film is not for everyone, some people won’t enjoy it. BUT! That being said, it’s so nice to see a film-maker take an idea and run with it 100% and do it well. Even if it’s not your favorite type of film, the craftsmanship that went into it makes you to respect it, appreciate it, and if you’re into this type of film, love it.

Overall:

Prepare for an experience and good luck to you my friend! Consider yourself both warned and hopefully enticed!

Rating: 9/10

Splice is in theaters June 4th!

A new internet trailer has been released for Vincenzo Natali’s thriller Splice and it’s filled with ungodly goodness. The film stars Sarah Polley and Oscar winner Adrien Brody as well as model-turned-actress Delphine Chaneac, who plays the creature they genetically engineer. The film will debut in theaters on June 4th but until then check out the latest trailer…

The film centers on two rebellious scientists who cross the lines of ethics and genetics with one of their experiments. They splice together human and animal DNA to form a hybrid creature, that grows from a deformed infant to a winged human chimera. They name it Dren and what starts off as a miracle of nature becomes an abomination before God.

The thing this trailer does differently than the previous ones is introduce the actual history of genetic science. You see how it goes from point A to point C with the creation of Dren. It’s also interesting to watch how scientists continue to push boundaries, which makes you wonder if something this extreme could happen in our time. We don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors.

What do you think about the internet trailer for Splice?

Today legendary director Woody Allen finally decided to reveal the full cast for his upcoming mystery project, Midnight in Paris. In the past we’ve picked up on one or two actors like Marion Cotillard and Owen Wilson and now we’ve learned that Oscar winner Adrien Brody has joined the film. Here’s the complete cast list along with a brief synopsis…

The Synopsis:

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS is a romantic comedy that follows a family travelling to the city for business. The party includes a young engaged couple that has their lives transformed throughout the journey. The film celebrates a young man’s great love for Paris, and simultaneously explores the illusion people have that a life different from their own is better.

The film stars Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Carla Bruni, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen, Owen Wilson, Nina Arianda, Kurt Fuller, Tom Hiddleston, Mimi Kennedy, Alison Pill and Corey Stoll.

Production on Midnight in Paris begins this summer in you guessed it…France! Out of this bunch of actors we’re mostly interested in seeing Tom Hiddleston because he’ll be playing the main villain in Marvel’s Thor next year. We want to see what he’s got!

What do you think of the full cast of Midnight in Paris?

Yet another trailer for the Vincenzo Natali‘s sci-fi thriller Splice, which has been getting attention at film festivals all over has just debuted on MySpace and you can check it out below. The film may not be the most original idea, it’s about a few genetic engineers Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) who specialize in splicing together DNA from different animals to create incredible new hybrids, but seems to be quite effective with audiences.

In the film, the duo attempt to revolutionize science and medicine by splicing together human DNA with… well they don’t make that clear… something else in order to make what turns out to be “a mistake” and create the world’s worst nightmare… it seems like there are a lot of plot lines and theoretical arguments going on in this film. Can they pull them all off? I can’t wait and see!

Splice is set to be released on June 4th with distribution by Warner Bros.

On today of all days a trailer has been released for the Sundance stoner comedy, High School (emphasis on ‘high’). If you’re wondering what the big deal is about April 20th or 4-20, it’s a drug reference. Yes, we said it. It’s a slang term for marijuana and the fact that a film that centers on the “green stuff” debuted its trailer today is too much of a coincidence. Take a look…

The premise of High School centers on a teenage boy named Henry Burke (Matt Bush). He’s the valedictorian of his class and a part-time druggie. Unfortunately he picked the wrong time to develop a habit because the overbearing principal (Michael Chiklis) has just instated a zero tolerance policy on narcotics enforcing mandatory drug testing.

Failure of the test will result in immediate expulsion, which puts Henry in a bad predicament since his college scholarship is on the line. He along with the neighborhood drug dealer (Adrien Brody) come up with a scheme to get the entire student body high because they can’t expel everyone…can they?

Check out the NSFW trailer below…

Adrien Brody’s reaction at the end of this trailer is hilarious. You can tell he’s going to be a real character in this film. High School marks the directorial debut of John Stalberg.

What do you think of the trailer? Are you interested in seeing the film?
