Wonder Woman Costume Literally Rebooted

After some public outcry for the recently released still of Adrianne Palicki‘s Wonder Woman otufit, it seems the costumers made some last minute changes to reflect the poor reception of the costume. Not too much, though – it’s still keeping in line with the images we’ve seen before but with some modest tweaking. The show is in now in production and SFX got the first images. Take a look…

The David E. Kelley script on this show is supposed to be terrible, but if audiences want to watch a beautiful woman run around in fetish-wear, then this might have a chance. The show has guilty pleasure written all over it, but if the reception to the pilot is anything like the reception to the pilot’s script, the show will likely go through a number of changes to be be elevated to “guilty pleasure” status if it survives pilot season.

There’s long been a theory that most shows with great pilots tend to not last long. Most TV shows take a little bit of up and running to get their feet. Regardless of the pre-release reactions, this seems like something a large audience will at least give a gander to, if only because it’s network television, and it could be fun in a saucy way.

Most fans would rather have had a movie at this point, which Joss Whedon had been developing but it never came to fruition. It’s sad to think that a female superhero is considered less cinematic, though the problem with Wonder Woman – as she is known in pop culture – is that she’s long been seen more as a sex object than hero. Maybe the show will change that, but from these images I doubt it.

Adrianne Palicki’s Wonder Woman Costume Revealed!

“Wonder Woman” is being rebooted by David E. Kelley, and will star Adrianne Palicki as the titular hero and her alter ego Diana Prince. Fans have been curious what to make of the project, as the script has been called lesser. Though casting news has upped anticipation with Cary Elwes and Elizabeth Hurley joining the project, the show still has a question mark attached. And now there’s a preview of Wonder Woman’s costume. First impressions: Shiny. Booby. Colorful.

Bringing the character into the 21st century is going to be difficult, and it is unknown how well Wonder Woman will do interacting with the real world. It’d be great to see her – say – battling the crack dens of “The Wire’s” Baltimore. This costume pic suggests a less serious approach across the board.

Growing up on the show, the Lynda Carter-starring version was like “Charlie’s Angels” minus two, and the action seemed as important as Carter’s costume. This picture definitely plays up the fetishism that comes with wearing a costume, but as a new approach Palicki looks better costumed for comic-con than crime fighting. Having not read the script, I can’t comment on the tone of the show, but this seems to say a lot. Maybe it’s all going to be a goof, which isn’t in line with the modern thinking on comic book shows and movies.

Adrianne Palicki Cast as TV’s Wonder Woman

The women who kick ass TV movement is pushing full speed ahead with this latest casting. Back in October it was announced that super producer, creator, and writer David E. Kelley was developing a modernized “Wonder Woman” TV series. The man behind “The Practice” and “Ally McBeal” wants to tap into the superhero genre, and according to Warner Bros, he’s going to use Adrianne Palicki to do it!

The studio has announced that Palicki, who previously starred in “Friday Night Lights,” the defunct “Lone Star,” and Legion has landed the title role in the “Wonder Woman” series. The actress is currently sporting some brunette locks, but she’s known for being a bright blond. She’s a former model who clocks in at 5’11 in height, which isn’t bad compared to Wonder Woman’s previous portrayer Lynda Carter who stands at 5’9.

The “Wonder Woman” pilot will center on the character as “a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.” With Kelley in the mix, we hope this doesn’t turn into some post-feminist tripe that has her alter ego Diana Prince struggling to be a superhero and have a love life simultaneously.

Diana is an Amazon warrior for goodness sake. She’s not weak. In the Justice League she stands by Superman’s side for a reason. We really hope they don’t water down her strength to appease male audiences or attract superficial female viewers. If they’re going to adapt this property, they need to do it right!

Taylor Kitsch Returning to Friday Night Lights for Season 5

I know what you’re thinking but yes, “Friday Night Lights” is still on the air. The small town, football drama is currently running its fourth season on NBC and it has fans wondering about the uncertain future of two if its characters. The major question on everybody’s mind is: Will Taylor Kitsch and Adrianne Palicki return for season 5? Well, you can rest your pretty little heads because according to EW, they’ll be back and with bells on…

Sources confirm that both Tim (Kitsch) and Tyra (Palicki) will be in Dillon during FNL’s fifth and probably final season. “Palicki will guest in next season’s last two episodes, while Kitsch has signed on for the final four.”

The duo will join Zach Gilford who’s also scheduled to return for the final 4 next season and Scott Porter who’ll appear in episode 7. All the Panthers will be together again for the series when it takes its final bow. Over the past year both Kitsch and Palicki have recently made the transition to feature films, which had fans worried about their allegiance to the show.

Kitsch starred in X-Men Origins Wolverine in the coveted role of Gambit and plays the title character in Pixar’s live action, CGI adaptation, John Carter of Mars. Palicki appeared in Scott Stewart’s Legion earlier this year and co-stars in the upcoming remake of Red Dawn alongside Chris Hemsworth.

Season 5 of “Friday Night Lights” is expected to debut next fall on DirectTV.

The Top Ten Actors to Watch in 2010

The end of 2009 is near, and a new batch of actors are gearing up to take over Hollywood. Next year you’ll see plenty of big budget films and long awaited sequels headlined by unfamiliar faces. To keep you in the loop we’ve created a list of the top ten actors to watch in 2010. With stakes this high, 2010 will be the make or break year for everyone involved, so sit back, relax, and take a look into our “Krystal” ball.

1. Carey Mulligan

British actress Carey Mulligan is the success story that keeps young undiscovered actresses waiting tables. Within the past year she has gone from an unknown to the new “it” girl. She will most likely be gaining an Oscar nod (if not win) due to her acclaimed performance in the indie flick, An Education and next year she’ll appear in the coveted role of Gordon Gekko’s daughter in Oliver Stone‘s Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps opposite Michael Douglas, Frank Langella, and Shia Labeouf. Not bad for someone whose biggest claim to fame was playing Keira Knightley‘s sidekick in Pride and Prejudice.

2. Chris Hemsworth

This summer’s Star Trek beamed more than just Chris Pine to the big leagues, it also helped out some of his colleagues including Hemsworth. If you don’t remember him from Star Trek don’t worry, you’ll be seeing a lot more of him soon. In 2010 he’ll take over a role originated by the late Patrick Swayze in the remake of the cult classic Red Dawn, and he’ll also begin production on Kenneth Branagh‘s adaptation of the comic Thor, which will have him following in the Marvel footsteps of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and Edward Norton‘s The Incredible Hulk.

3. Mia Wasikowska

Every actress between the ages of 16-21 wanted to land the role of Alice in Tim Burton‘s reimagining of Alice in Wonderland, but Australian Mia Wasikowska was the lucky one that got to jump down the rabbit hole. The Disney film will reunite frequent collaborators Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in a 3-D visual feast that everyone in Hollywood will be talking about. If that isn’t grand enough, Wasikowska will also appear in the comedy The Kids Are Alright and an untitled Gus Van Sant drama scheduled for a 2011 release. Sounds like she’s the new “indie it” girl.

4. Noah Ringer

How great do you have to be for M. Night Shyamalan to hand pick you from obscurity to star as the lead in his film? Noah Ringer was a 12 year old martial artist who sent in an audition tape to the director, not knowing that it would land him the role of Aang in The Last Airbender. The film is an adaptation of a popular animated series, and has a legion of followers who are hard to impress. Even though it’s his first acting job, Ringer has everything he needs to pull off the character including a black belt in Tae Kwan Do. Will be stick around? Probably through 2010. Who knows he may be the next JCVD.

5. Chloe Moretz

Chloe Moretz is still a tween, but has worked opposite some of the biggest stars in the business. Most audiences saw her in this year’s unromantic comedy 500 Days of Summer as Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s wise beyond her year’s sister, but 2010 has even more in store for the young actress. She’ll star as a gun toting assassin in the comic adaptation Kick-Ass, where she’ll play Hit Girl, the deadly young daughter of Nicolas Cage‘s Big Daddy. She also landed the female lead in the English language remake of the vampire flick Let Me In, opposite The Road star Kodi Smit-Mcphee. Talk about being a bad-ass before you can even drive.

6. Garrett Hedlund

Garrett Hedlund has managed to snag supporting roles in some well known films such as Troy, Four Brothers, and Friday Night Lights, but next year he’ll be starring side by side with franchise legend, Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy. The film will debut in December 2010 with the same weekend slot as this year’s Avatar, which could be a blessing or a curse depending on how you look at it. Can Hedlund take over the Tron franchise and spawn a new generation of sequels? Only time will tell.

7. Adrianne Palicki

Over the past few years Palicki has made a name for herself with notable television appearances on shows like Supernatural and the NBC adaptation of Friday Night Lights. Next year she will appear in two major film releases, one being the religious epic Legion, and the other a modernized remake of Red Dawn. She’ll play a major role in both movies, but Legion will have her front and center as a woman whose unborn child causes a war that literally moves heaven and earth. On with yourself sexy lady!

8. Jay Chou

Current Star Rating: No Stars

Projected Star Increase:

No one will ever be able to replace the late great Bruce Lee, but Jay Chou will attempt to fill his shoes for the big screen adaptation of The Green Hornet. He’ll be playing Kato, the swift kicking sidekick of Seth Rogen‘s vigilante publisher Brit Reid. The Taiwanese actor is already a star overseas with a successful career as an actor, producer, and singer. The last time U.S. audiences saw him on screen was in the 2006 film The Curse of the Golden Flower, and four years later he’s ready to tackle mainstream comedy.

9. Portia Doubleday

Current Star Rating: No Stars

Projected Star Increase:

The festival buzz surrounding the dark comedy Youth in Revolt has been positive, and beyond the hype regarding Michael Cera‘s performance you’ll find some mentions of his co-star Portia Doubleday. The actress in a newbie to the film world but appears to be right at home in front of the camera. She stars as Cera’s love interest Sheeni, and manages to come across as a veteran. With her natural comedic timing we could be looking at the next Emma Stone or Ellen Page.

10. Aaron Johnson

Current Star Rating: No Stars

Projected Star Increase:

Former child actor Aaron Johnson is already a familiar face in his native UK, but he’ll be making his leading man debut stateside as the title character in Matthew Vaughn‘s Kick-Ass. Johnson stars as Dave Lizewski, an awkward teenager who’s brutally attacked and decides to take justice into his own hands. The role is a drastic shift from his performance as legendary Beatle John Lennon in the loose biopic Nowhere Boy, which chronicles the tumultuous childhood of the future rock star. Both films are slated for 2010 releases, but Nowhere Boy will makes its theatrical debut in the U.K.

Carla Gugino’s Not Wearing Any Underwear

What better way get the boys into theaters to see the upcoming comedy Women In Trouble, from director Sebastian Gutierrez, than by having Carla Gugino look straight into camera and say “I’m not wearing any underwear…” You can say anything else you want, but really, that along with all the positive buzz this film has been receiving since it hit the festival circuit at SXSW should be plenty of reason for you to check it out come November.

Good times! Nice to know that even though the film deals with a number of “troubling” issues, it also has a sense of humor about itself. Besides Gugino the cast features Connie Britton, Marley Shelton, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Josh Brolin, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to name a few.

Women in Trouble will be given a limited release on November 13, 2009.

Carla Gugino’s Women in Trouble Poster and Clip

The promotion for Women in Trouble has been a little too under the radar for my taste. We’ve barely seen a trailer or even a teaser promoting the movie, which is doing it a real disservice. It stars Carla Gugino as a porn star named Elektra Luxx, in the film directed by Sebastian Gutierrez. If you think these two are a great combo, you should check out the rest of the extensive cast.

As you can see this is an honest depiction of the raunchier side of life. The film centers on several women, who in one way or another find themselves in “trouble.” Besides Gugino the cast features Connie Britton, Marley Shelton, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Brolin, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to name a few.

The release date set for the film is November 13th, but I haven’t even seen an official trailer, just the clip above. I hope it does hit theaters as planned. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Women in Trouble and I really want to see it.

Legion Red Band Trailer

Finally the trailer that we saw weeks ago at Comic-Con (read our first look) for the upcoming religious epic Legion has been released and it looks absolutely amazing. The film centers on the archangel Michael (Paul Bettany) and his journey to protect a young woman (Adrianne Palicki) and her unborn child. The trailer is just as creepy as it is beautiful.

The best part about this trailer is that, even though Doug Jones is assisted by special effects, we finally get to see his face on screen! Jones’ is known for playing almost every interesting animal-like creature in Guillermo del Toro‘s films, such as Pan in Pan’s Labyrinth, Abe (the Fish-Man) in Hellboy, and many more.

Set in a small diner in the middle of nowhere, a group of random patrons realize their pawns in a war between heaven and earth. The cast includes Tyrese Gibson, Dennis Quaid, Kevin Durand and Doug Jones. Legion is directed and written by second time film-maker, long time visual effects creator Scott Stewart. It looks like he’s really using his background to his advantage, the effects looks amazing!

Legion hits theaters next year on January 22nd.

Comic-Con 2009: First Look at Scott Stewart’s Legion

We finally got to see some footage from Scott Stewart’s upcoming religious epic, Legion. I hadn’t heard much about the film besides the fact that Paul Bettany would be playing an angel, and Doug Jones would just be playing creepy……again. Either way I was excited when the cast came out to introduce the film. They showed the first official trailer which literally blew me away!

Check out my thoughts on the video after the jump.

Doug Jones appears in the film as a fallen angel of some sort, and even though he’s still using some make-up and prosthetics he’s not unrecognizable like he usually is in his other films.
Paul Bettany is shown as the arch angel Michael, who cuts his wings off and decides to help man kind from the impeding legion of angels that are coming to wipe them out.
Gabriel, another arch angel is played by Kevin Durand is leading the pack, and Michael says to him that he’s always been so eager to please.
Adrianne Palicki’s character is pregnant with a child that can save mankind, and Michael turns against everyone in heaven to protect her.
The cast includes Dennis Quaid, Charles S. Dutton, and Tyrese Gibson as a group of strangers who are stranded at a diner in the middle of the desert, with no help in sight.
The graphics are amazing! When the angels are shown possessing the bodies of humans it looks pretty terrifying. Their eyes go black, and they apparently have the ability to crawl up walls!

Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki Join Red Dawn Remake

Watch out everybody there is movement on the Red Dawn remake front. The 1980′s film which is known for taking the Cold War to the classroom has just added two new cast members to it’s roster. According to EW, Josh Peck, and Adrianne Palicki will join Chris Hemsworth in the remake of the 1984 feature. I’m still in disbelief that this film is being made, but there’s more to the story after the jump.

Red Dawn will be directed by Dan Bradley and will star Hemsworth as Jed Eckert, whom was previously portrayed by Patrick Swayze. His younger brother Matt Eckert will be played by Josh Peck, taking over for Charlie Sheen, while Adrianne Palicki will star as Toni Mason, a role previously occupied by Jennifer Gray. Hemsworth could become a household name after this film and his title role in the Marvel comic adaptation, Thor. Josh Peck is a former child star of Nickelodeon fame (Drake and Josh) who’s made the transition to adult roles via films such as The Wackness. Adrianne Palicki is best known for being a regular on the NBC football series, Friday Night Lights.

I’m not even going to go into a rant about how much Peck and Hemsworth look nothing alike, because Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen weren’t exactly twins in the first movie. With these three down they’ve got a good three more to go if they plan on filling out all the main roles from the original. I’ve got a bad feeling about this in the pit of my stomach, but there’s nothing we can do about it now.
