‘Anchorman 2′ Trailer Promises Hot Breath In Your Ear, Stankiness, And Witches

Anchorman: The Legend Continues (or Anchorman 2, for those of you with short attention spans) dropped a new teaser onto the internet this morning (as if new teases for Skyfall and The Master weren’t enough for one day). A bit of a rush job, there’s no new footage in the Anchorman: The Legend Continues teaser, but it does round up Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner, and feature series of new one liners: “This time, I’m on top,” “it’s gonna get stanky,” and “in this movie, we play witches!” Check out the ridiculous clip below.

The teaser comes courtesy of Funny or Die!, naturally, features about a minute of mugging from the original cast, with Steve Carell stealing the quick show with his blank-faced awkwardness. Pretty funny stuff for a film that hasn’t even begun filming yet.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues won’t begin filming until later this year, and won’t hit theaters until 2013, but hopefully the teaser will tide us all over before the real footage starts slipping out. For now, dig into the teaser poster for the film, and start counting down the days until 2013.

As we previously reported, the film concerns “when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79, All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with,” according to director Adam McKay.

‘Anchorman 2′ Gets A New Poster And A New Title

Ever since the March announcement that Anchorman 2 was finally happening, fans have been waiting for any kind of preview of the long-awaited sequel. This week, we get two—teasers for the film have been attached to prints of The Dictator, and today, we have a teaser poster heralding the film, it’s new official title, and a loose release date. Check it out after the jump.

First off, the film is now no longer just Anchorman 2—you can call it Anchorman: The Legend Continues now. Further, while the film had been rumored for a 2014 release, the poster is pretty boldly proclaiming a 2013 release date.

As for the barest sketch of a plot, all we know is what we reported in April, when we noted that Anchorman and Anchorman: The Legend Continues writer-director Adam McKay noted the film would be set “when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79, All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”

Also, it is known that Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner would be returning to reprise their roles, with no indication, however, if Christina Applegate would be returning for another round of madness.

Adam McKay Talks ‘Anchorman 2′ Plot Details

With the news that Anchorman was finally getting the sequel its creators had tried to make (for years now), you’d figure they’d have their ideas and plans on lockdown. There was talk of testing it as a stage show, and all sorts of interesting rumors about the directions it could head, but writer/director Adam McKay has talked about their progress so far. He tells Empire “We’ve done about two per cent! Half a per cent? We’ve got five pages of story notes and chunks of story. We’re holing up writing for the next three months.”‘ He does hint at their direction…

And that would be towards the emergence of CNN. McKay said this:

“It’s right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79, All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”

We do know that Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner are back for more, though it’s unknown if Christina Applegate will return in any capacity. That was being talked about last we heard, though there was nothing definitive.

What makes this project so exciting is that when a film like Star Trek gets a sequel, it’s because it made enough money to generate a follow up, but – ultimately – you could tell that J.J. Abrams was more interested in making a film like Super 8 than going back to that well. Here everyone involved has spoken about wanting to do this project, which is better than people coming back because of contractual obligation. Or – in the case of a sequel like Men in Black III – where you get the sense people are returning to the well because they need a career boost.

Which is why it’s so much fun to hear about. At worst, Anchorman 2 will be funny. But it won’t and can’t be desperate or passionless.

Will Ferrell Announces ‘Anchorman 2′ On ‘Conan’

Cult comedy fans have something to rejoice about this morning—after years of Paramount Pictures stating it simply wouldn’t happen due to the low cost effectiveness of comedy sequels, Will Ferrell appeared on Conan on Wednesday night in character as Ron Burgandy. Why? To play a few flute solos, suggest host Conan O’Brien undergo plastic surgery after declaring him hideous, and then to announce that a little movie called Anchorman 2 is finally happening. Paramount Pictures (the owners of the Anchorman property) had previously refused to green light an Anchorman sequel, due mostly to the fact that the making a comedy sequel is “almost impossible” because “they only work with big hits, which ‘drive everyone’s price up’ and make the film a huge financial risk.” Further, the $100 million price tag attached to the monumentally massive failure that was Will Ferrell’s Land of the Lost reboot probably didn’t instill Paramount with the necessary confidence.

However, the fact that we live in a post-Hangover 2 world in which comedy sequels can do massive business, and, accordingly Paramount has finally given Anchorman 2 the green light. Variety reports that the film with be directed by the same man who helmed the original, Adam McKay, and that Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner will all reprise their roles, making this the first (and probably only) time that something good came from the existence of Hangover 2. Stay classy, Paramount.

This past weekend we sat down to a press conference with some of the cast members of The Other Guys to talk about their upcoming mock-buddy-cop comedy. Writer/Director Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes and Mark Wahlberg were all in attendance and ready to perform for the flip cams! Between Ferrell joking about forcing his children to watch him in Elf even after they start crying to Keaton grinding on Wahlberg and trying to coax him into a fight, it was more of a show than an informative event.

Adam McKay To Direct Garth Ennis’ The Boys?

Anchorman, Step Brothers, and The Other Guys director Adam McKay is looking for a new gig. Now that its been confirmed that Paramount won’t greenlight the Anchorman sequel, he needs some fresh material. According to Collider, the director is a serious comic book fan and he’s being courted as a potential helmer for the live action adaptation of The Boys.

Prior to this there was speculation that A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Samuel Bayer might direct because he’d shown some interest during the development stages. McKay has been looking for a comic based project to helm, which could take him outside of his Will Ferrell world of comedies. Nothing has been signed and nothing is official but it looks like he’s a prime candidate for The Boys.

It sounds like McKay wants to pull a Jon Favreau and make this his Iron Man. Remember how skeptical everyone was when they heard he was directing that film? But I doubt this will be PG-13 because there’s a lot of course language and violence that’s essential to the source material. We’ve all seen what happens when studios take a graphic comic and soften it up for the sake of money. It usually sucks!

According to Wikipedia,

“The series is set in a contemporary world very much similar to the real one, with one notable exception: a number of people have some form of superpower. The series follows a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as ‘The Boys’, whose job it is to keep watch on superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or kill them.”

The characters are “Billy Butcher”, “Hughie Campbell”, “Mother’s Milk”, “The Frenchman”, “The Female (of the Species)”, “Lieutenant Colonel Greg D. Mallory”, and “The Legend.” The Boys was created by Garth Ennis who also did Preacher.

Paramount Says Anchorman 2 NOT Happening!

Have you ever wanted something so bad you could taste it? We felt that way about the sequel to the 2004 workplace comedy Anchorman and guess what? It’s not happening. After months of rumors and false hope, Paramount has officially given the Adam McKay project the shaft.

A few days ago, McKay was in high spirits about directing Anchorman 2 and getting the old gang back together including Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, and Paul Rudd. The biggest obstacle that stood in the film’s way was its budget. All the actors who appeared in the primary roles have had huge surges in their careers, which means their pay rates have gone up significantly. But even when McKay went in and shaved down the price tag it still wasn’t enough to save Ron Burgundy and the rest of the gang.

According to McKay’s Twitter, “So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried.”

Damn! Damn! Damn! We understand that Anchorman wasn’t a complete financial success ($86 million domestic) but if you can make a sequel to Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo, you can give it a chance. If the actors and the director are all willing to return for a cheaper price there’s no reason why Anchorman 2 shouldn’t be in development right now. Something smells fishy and we don’t like it!

Hold on to your buddy cop movie cliches because the first trailer for Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s comedy The Other Guys has hit the net. The film is directed by frequent Ferrell collaborator Adam McKay (Anchorman was awesome!) and co-stars the eternally cool Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson. There are explosions, there’s dancing, and there’s Batman…we mean Michael Keaton. Check it out…

The Other Guys centers on two New York detectives Allen Gamble (Ferrell), a forensic accountant who’s more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg), a tough guy who’s been stuck with him as his partner ever since an unfortunate run-in with Derek Jeter. They both idolize the city’s top cops, Danson and Highsmith (Johnson and Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the “Other Guys” to step up, things don’t quite go as planned.

We’d love to say that this trailer was hilarious from beginning to end but we’d be lying. There were a few instances that were chuckle worthy like the introduction of Ferrell’s wife (Eva Mendes) and Wahlberg breaking into dance but other than that it doesn’t really bring the funny.

Samuel L. Jackson Joins The Other Guys

The buddy cop comedy The Other Guys, which was tentatively entitled The B Team has two new recruits. According to Variety, Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson will co-star in the film, that is being headlined by Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. Production on the Columbia produced feature starts tomorrow and will be directed by Adam McKay.

The Other Guys centers on a pair of second string cops who try to gain respect and admiration from their law enforcement peers. Jackson and Johnson will play an elite pair of police officers who have everything they want and more. Their exploits are the envy of everyone in their department including Wahlberg and Ferrell’s characters. McKay co-wrote the script for the film along with Chris Henchy.

This is a step in a semi-positive direction for Johnson, because I was one family film away from cutting him off. Earlier today we released the poster for his latest film, The Tooth Fairy, and it’s not his best look. This film will also come as a much needed comedic break for Wahlberg. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing him in a lighter role.

The Other Guys hits theaters on August 6, 2010.

Judd Apatow Talks Anchorman 2

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy has to be one of my favorite movies. The 2004 Judd Apatow produced film featured Will Ferrell as the title character, based in 1970′s San Diego. Ever since the infamous “alley fight,” fans have wanted to see more from Ron, Brian, Champ, and Brick. Over at Empire they spoke to Apatow himself about the prospect of bringing the news team together for one more broadcast.

Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay have been stringing us along for years in regards to a potential follow up to the news based comedy. When Empire caught up with Apatow they thought it would be a good time to get some dirt on the sequel.

“They’re making a movie now, Will and Adam,” said Apatow, referring to the duo’s cop comedy, The Other Guys. “But I guess it’s a little bit more a possibility than it was a year ago, when it wasn’t being discussed at all.When we made Anchorman, Adam and Will had a lot of ideas about what the sequel would be – they’d always laugh about where they’d take the characters.”

This is what led to the fun stuff. What if Ron and the crew were old bags still doing the same jobs, but with a geriatric twist?

According to Apatow, “The great thing is, Will can be any age and play that character. Those anchormen sometimes have their jobs until they’re 75 years old. So we would always laugh that this movie could work if everybody’s really elderly.”

Even though I’d love to see them in their current state, I’ll give the senior citizen take a chance if it has a decent script attached to it. I need my Brian Fantana, and his panther cologne that smells like a dirty diaper and Indian food! If we can keep that spirit alive in the new film, I’ll be there!

Anchorman 2 Coming Your Way?

Here’s a sequel I’d love to see, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. There are so many quotable lines and ridiculous scenarios that stick out from that movie. The 2004 cult classic starred Will Ferrell as Burgundy, a sexist, self-centered, and not too bright news anchor who leads the number one news team in the San Francisco Bay area. For years there have been rumblings of a possible sequel, but now according to some of its stars, things are beginning to look a lot more serious.

Some of Burgundy’s cohorts from the Channel 4 News Team included field reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), sportscaster Champ Kind (David Koechner), weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), and co-anchor Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate). Over at /Film, they’ve given me hope that there may be a possible Anchorman 2 on the horizon, which means more comedy, but most importantly more poorly choreographed alley fights! While out promoting this summer’s Land of the Lost, Ferrell confirmed that everyone will be meeting next week to discuss the future of a sequel.

Director Adam McKay spoke about his interest in doing another Anchorman, while Paul Rudd divulged some sequel details surrounding the film’s setting. He said that “the movie might take place in the 1980′s or even the moon!” I’m sure that last line was a joke, but could you imagine those characters ten years later in the eighties?

Wahlberg and Ferrell are the B Team

When was the last time you saw Mark Wahlberg in a comedy? Recently, his resume has been filled with nothing but dramas and horror flicks, or in the case of The Happening a combination of both (a horrific drama). It’s time for a change and I think Mr. Wahlberg is ready to take a walk on the “B” side. According to Variety, the actor will team up with funny man Will Ferrell to star in an action comedy entitled, The B Team.

The B team is a comedy that has been bought by Sony Pictures Entertainment. It’s a bit awkward having this film in development when we know for a fact that The A-Team is in the works. No release date has been set for B Team, but the studio wants to start production as soon as the screenplay is ready. The film has familiar Ferrell collaborator Adam McKay attached to direct and co-write the script with Chris Henchy.

I know that a lot of noise is being made about this being a big leap for Wahlberg, but this isn’t his first comedy. Are we blocking out 1998′s The Big Hit? I still have that movie on VHS. It was an action comedy that starred Wahlberg, Lou Diamond Philips, Bokeem Woodbine, and Antonio Sabato, Jr. It exists people. The truth is out there.

Whose ready to laugh at/with Wahlberg?
