Aaron Sorkin is a genius writer, and he’s got a number of great shows and movies behind him. The West Wing, A Few Good Men, Moneyball, Sports Night, The Social Network (for which he won an Oscar). And there are definitely things that can be called Sorkin-esque – the man basically patented the television walk and talk. But now he’s got a TV show coming on HBO. It’s called The Newsroom. With last night’s launch of Season 2 of Game of Thrones, HBO is now starting to advertising what’s coming from them this summer. One of their most exciting new shows is Aaron Sorkin‘s The Newsroom, which has Jeff Daniels leading an ensemble that includes Emily Mortimer, Dev Patel, Sam Waterston, Olivia Munn, and Alison Pill. The show doesn’t premiere until June 24, but until then here’s a trailer.

The number one movie in America for two straight weeks has been the David Fincher-Aaron Sorkin collaboration The Social Network. The film chronicles the rise of the biggest social networking site in the world (Facebook) and the drama surrounding its founders, Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin. The film consists of a largely male cast and features a few supporting female roles but other than that it’s mostly a boys club. After heavy media attention and a whirlwind production, David Fincher’s latest film The Social Network is hitting theaters. The film is based on the book “The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal” that follows company founder Mark Zuckerberg from his humble beginnings as an anti-social Harvard student to becoming the youngest billionaire in the country. With that being said, you don’t get that much success, that quickly, without stepping on a few toes along the way.

Acclaimed screenwriter Aaron Sorkin just tackled his most contemporary project to date with David Fincher’s The Social Network. It’s an adaptation of the book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal that exposes the behind the scenes drama that surrounds the site’s creation. Once the story was brought to Sorkin’s attention, he met up with producer Scott Rudin, and Fincher and the rest is Social Network history.
Over the weekend, Sorkin and several members of the cast attended the film’s press day in New York City. The writer was very open about his interpretation of the story, and the heavy research that went into it. This isn’t a film of fiction, it’s based on concrete material that was revealed via anonymous sources. Sorkin discussed the fast shooting process for the film, and his working relationship with Fincher. Most importantly, he spoke about the film’s intent, which is not to paint the picture of a bad guy or a good guy, it’s to tell a story from every point of view…

The film is based off of the overnight success of Facebook and it’s creators Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg. Columbia has replaced Steven Soderbergh with Aaron Sorkin to write Moneyball. Production was set to start in June with Soderbergh, but was later cancelled after Amy Pascal and other executives felt the script was different than what they signed on for, reports THR.
Brad Pitt is still set to star as Billy Beane, the Oakland A’s manager who used non-traditional statistical systems to build the cheapest winning baseball team.
