If you’re looking to revamp your DVD collection you’re in luck this week because two (kinda) new releases are available for purchase. The biggest titles are remakes (surprise!), one that features kid-friendly action and another that’s filled with gruesome horror. Get ready for The Karate Kid and A Nightmare on Elm Street. There are also a couple of smaller horror films hitting DVD such as the love it/hate it spectacle that is Splice and the vomit/vomit profusely oddity that is The Human Centipede set to scare.

He came, he saw, he conquered the box office with the remake of the horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street. Samuel Bayer’s take on the Wes Craven gem debuted at number one this week with over $32 million (we smell a sequel), followed by DreamWorks little engine that could How to Train Your Dragon with $10 million. Besides Elm Street, the only other major new release was Summit’s Furry Vengeance and it came in 5th place with just under $7 million to no one’s surprise. The film didn’t exactly have box office success written all over it.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is set to hit theaters on April 30th, and the marketing behind the film is in full force. We’ve recently discovered a few Freddy Krueger toys, which I’m assuming are geared towards an older crowd because these would terrify any normal kid.
