Earlier today, we reported that director Bryan Singer was interested in returning to the X-Men film franchise that he jump-started almost ten years ago. Singer directed X-Men, and X2: X-Men United back in 2003, and was scheduled to take on X3: The Last Stand, before he dropped out to helm Superman Returns. That left the franchise in the hands of Brett Ratner, and the series has been in shambles ever since. Now, with a potential return on the horizon, do you think Singer can take X-Men to the next level?
Take our official poll and tell us what you think…

Last week, we posted a story from actor Tim Pocock’s Twitter page stating his involvement with the upcoming X-Men: First Class film. According to his latest posting, someone broke into his account and published that info without his permission. He clarified that he is filming an Australian TV show, but not working on First Class. X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner also stepped in to clear the air regarding the status of the upcoming film.

Gavin Hood, is the award winning director who brought us the steaming pile of film entitled X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Even though his last encounter with the comic book franchise was lackluster, that hasn’t stopped him from showing interest in another Marvel property, Magneto. According to MTV, Hood is smitten by the metal messiah and wouldn’t mind jumping on board to direct the feature if asked by the studio.

There are so many X-Men spin-offs being produced at the same time it’s hard to keep them all straight. One of the upcoming films will be X-Men: First Class. The script for the film is written by Josh Schwartz (The O.C., Gossip Girl), and will focus on a handful of students at Xavier’s School for the Gifted that may or may not include Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), and Beast. With Deadpool, Wolverine 2, and the ever looming Magneto film’s in waiting, when will they get to First Class?

Luckily, there’s also plenty of TV on DVD to wet silver-disced appetites and, as always, the three worst DVDs of the week.

It appears that Fox and director David Goyer are under the impression that they can make a legitimate Magneto spin-off. It’s no secret that Magneto was intended to be the first film in the X-Men Origins series, but somehow the fan outcry and the financial potential of Wolverine won out instead. According to FirstShowing, Goyer is reassuring us that we can still look forward to a prequel based on the Marvel villain. More on the story below.

Here are a few more photos from the Comic-Con exhibition floor. We got a shot of an official poster for the animated film Planet 51, as well as a statue of He-Man, and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. The Wolverine statue is made out of wax, and I’m surprised he hasn’t melted in all this San Diego heat. The air conditioning system is barely cutting it.
Stay tuned for more photos from the first official day of the convention.

I’m all for a good conspiracy theory, so when I came across this story I had to give it a little TLC. The majority of us know about the big internet release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in April that occurred a full month before it’s theatrical debut. The copy was an unfinished edit, missing various key special effects and footage. In spite of the scandal the film still managed to debut strong, and has made a decent amount of money. To this day we have never found out who was really behind the incident. Some speculate that it came from inside 20th Century Fox, while others are suggesting that Scientology may have played a role.
