Jason Reitman once again tackles comedy and drama with his latest film entitled, Up in the Air. The film stars Oscar winner George Clooney and features Twilight co-star Anna Kendrick as his naive young sidekick. Up in the Air is a refreshing look at a career driven man and his inability to connect with those around him. The film offers a humorous yet relevant take on how technology effects people’s ability to have healthy, normal relationships.

Up in the Air’s Vera Farmiga Thrives in a Man’s World

This weekend the talented Vera Farmiga will star opposite George Clooney in director Jason Reitman‘s latest film, Up in the Air. In the movie she plays Alex Goran, a successful and confident woman who complicates Clooney’s life in more ways than one. She’s a love interest who plays by her own rules, and makes men follow her and not the other way around.

She’s the latest in a string of female characters written by Reitman who thrives in what’s considered a “man’s world.” We recently spoke to Farmiga about playing such an alpha female, and she gave an interesting take on how she views the flawed yet human characteristics of Alex.

up in the air pc09 10 17 LFF: Up in the Air Press Conference Reitman, Farminga, Kendrick

Director Jason Reitman is on a role! First with Thank You for Not Smoking, then Juno, and now Up in the Air, he’s proved that all three times can be a charm. If you liked either of his previous works, than you’re going to love his latest film, Up in the Air starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, with a number of amazing supporting roles by Jason Bateman, J.K. Simmons, Zach Galifianakis and more.

Sadly, at the press conference for for the film at The London Film Festival, Clooney was unable to show up because (as always) he was busy working away on another one of his many projects. But! We were graced by the extremely humble and hilarious, Jason Reitman who is just as charming and funny as his films, the gorgeous and talented Vera Farminga, and the adorable new-comer who will blow you away Anna Kendrick.

You can read my first response to the film or check out what they had to say about the film below in one of the most laid back and entertaining press conferences I’ve ever been to… Continue Reading

LFF: Up in the Air First Look

upintheairkj09 09 08 LFF: Up in the Air First Look

Just walked out of an LFF screening for Up in the Air and had the feeling of “finally.” The film stars George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, and Jason Bateman, in a story about a guy who travels around the US firing people and becoming a master traveler.

Overall the film used ideas that we had seen before, but in a new and fresh way. There was the guy that travels and refuses to settle down, a young plucky employee shoving out the “old guy”, and a problem that must be solved. The ending you could see a mile away, but the feelings that came with it was not what you would expect. In a way Jason Reitman the director/writer found a new way to use cliches, making them a new form of non-cliche-cliches. To top that off, he finally gives a good reason for a man running through at airport to get to a woman, so for that I thank him.

upintheairkj09 09 08 Teaser Clip from Jason Reitmans Up in the Air

The latest film by Juno director Jason Reitman, Up in the Air, has been creating buzz as serious competitor for an Oscar, (although at the moment The Hurt Locker seems to be the other film which is Oscar worthy). The movie is about a Ryan Bingham, George Clooney, a man who travels around helping corporations with downsizing. While on a job, he meets another seasoned traveler, Alex (Vera Farmiga) in a hotel bar.

In the clip, Clooney’s characters meets Farmiga’s for the first time. They bond over being road warriors, comparing each others credit cards and the mileage plans. Of course there is a little friendly banter, flirting, and George Clooney being his normal charming self.

orphan09 3 13 Orphan Trailer: Yet Another Freaky Child

What is it about children that scares us so much? From the little girls playing jump rope singing “one two, Freddy’s coming for you,” to adorable killer vampire children in Let the Right One In horror films love scary, possessed, killers children. Think about it. Horror films have one of two things: Boobs or scary children. If there isn’t some stupid blond running around half naked covered in blond there is a child trying to kill you in some way. You have Danny from The Shining yelling “REDRUM,” the attack of the killer blond children in The Village of the Damned and the freaky devil child from Unborn; scary movies love having freaky children.

Orphan is about a husband (Peter Sarsgaar) and wife (Vera Farmiga) who recently lost their baby adopt a 9-year-old girl (Isabelle Fuhrman) named Esther.
