The winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Original Score goes to Michael Giacchino for Up. In his acceptance speech he told a little story about the start of his career and how he never felt discouraged by family or friends. He talked about getting his first camera and shooting movies and how no one ever made him feel like it was a waste of his time. He decided to share the award with those supportive individuals.

Up Oscar Winner 2010: Best Animated Feature   Up

The winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature goes to Up. The film is also nominated for Best Motion Picture in the live action category, but it didn’t surprise anyone that it took top honors in the animated field. Pete Docter accepted the award for the film and thanked his cast, crew, and his family whom he called his “greatest adventure.”

Since the development of this distinction, the opportunity for animated films to be considered for the biggest award of the night (Best Picture), have become slim to none. According to Reuters, Pixar’s summer hit Up, may force the Academy to take a second look at their selection process.

Depending on who you ask, we have two different films taking the number one spot. According to BoxOfficeMojo Up is this weekends box office winner, but according to Variety, The Hangover managed to sneak past Up by a mere $500,000. Either way, this weeks numbers show that word of mouth will be keeping Up in the theaters for a while, that all you sickos out there heard about Zach Galifianakis‘ antics and had to see the movie this Sunday, and that not many of your care about Will Ferrell being in a Land of the Lost remake, in fact you prefer him on “Men Vs. Wild.”
