FF 0131 Fright Night: Movie Review

On the surface, Fright Night has a number of strikes going against it. It’s a remake. It’s in 3-D. The original is loved by fans and unknown to the general public – meaning that its name brand value is low, and those who love the original are probably going to be annoyed. but to make it they assembled a great cast (including Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin), and they had a good starting point. It would be nice to say that the film overcomes those obstacles, but – though there are some nice touches here and there – it doesn’t work. Check out our review….

It wouldn’t be an independent film festival without a quirky family comedy, complete with a plucky guitar score, precocious children speaking with maturity beyond their years,  and Toni Collette as the matriarch. Jesus Henry Christ follows in the footsteps of Little Miss Sunshine, Juno, and Garden State, by creating cartoonish, idealistic and quick tongued characters, but thankfully employs fewer emotionally manipulative plot techniques to compel viewers (But not much fewer).  Check out the full review after the jump…

Can anyone really compete with the suave vampire next door that Chris Sarandon pulled off in the original Fright Night?  We may have our doubts but the people over at DreamWorks think Irish actor Colin Farrell has what it takes to fill his shoes. According to THR, Farrell along with “Unites States of Tara” actress Toni Collette have both signed on to star in the remake.
