Tom Hanks is looking to tackle the behind the scenes story of the legendary Comedy Store. It may not sound like anything big off the top of your head, but it’s a building that gave some of the biggest actors/comedians of our time their first real shot at success. The film will center on its founder Mitzi Shore, yes she is Pauly Shore’s mother, and the unconventional business relationship she had with her employees.

We all know who said: “I’m the King of the world” and “Say Hello to my little friend!” Most people can’t help but immitate Leonardo DiCaprio hanging from the front of the Titanic and Al Pacino about to shoot his machine gun, while saying those lines. Every year a list is compiled of the top earning actors in Hollywood. Typically this information is released in the beginning or halfway through the year. The information tallied is based on film revenue from the second half of 2008, combined with any upfront pay for films in 2009. Every year certain actors earn a spot on Forbes Magazine’s annual list of highest earning actors and I can’t understand why. This year, I put on my thinking cap and did some investigating. Not only have we discovered the outlandish numbers, but we’ve found out the truth behind them.

The month of June is Gay & Lesbian Pride Month so in honor of that, we have put together a list of some of the most influential gay films which have helped inspire, educate, and encourage audiences to make a change and support equal rights.

IESB has posted tidbits from an interview with Tom Hanks. He talks about all his upcoming projects: Toy Story 3, Angels and Demons, and an HBO follow up to Band of Brothers called The Pacific.
Can Tom Hanks make a bad career move? No, seriously, this guy caught fire in the 80′s and continues to burn today. I admit he had some hits and misses, but The Toy Story films (as with all the Pixar films) have been enormously successful, and Band of Brothers won six Emmys. That’s nothing to laugh at! The Da Vinci Code, whether you like it or not, grossed over 750 million dollars worldwide.
Instead of sitting on his laurels, this legend lives on!

We hear a lot about how much money such-and-such movie made in theaters. With blockbusters such as The Dark Knight, Iron Man, the Star Wars franchise, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it’s hard to imagine that all parties involved didn’t make a fortune. Sadly, for those who are unaware of studio practices, they are often swindled. Not by a little bit, but out of millions of dollars.
David Prowse, the actor who played Darth Vader in the Star Wars Trilogy, has received little money in the form of royalties from Return of the Jedi. The reason? Apparently, the movie has not made a profit. It would definitely seem like the movie made a lot of money right? Nope, in fact it is at a loss! That’s pretty surprising for a movie that grossed $475 million worldwide. The movie made a gross profit, but a net loss. The net income is calculated by subtracting various expenses from the revenue of the movie. Simple enough. The only problem is that the studios add on so many bogus expenses, that movies appear to have lost money when really they have made money.
This is just one of the many cases highlighting what is known as “Hollywood accounting”.
Note to self: don’t ever agree to percentage of the net profits for a movie, you want GROSS profits. You will rarely ever make any money off net profits.
Here are a few movies that, surprisingly, have actually lost money by using this accounting system…

As May approaches the studios are pushing out the promotional materials for many of their summer tent pole films. This week alone has been dominated by clips and posters, from Paramount’s Star Trek so it’s no surprise that Sony Pictures wanted to make a push for their Da Vinci Code sequel, Angels & Demons. A video clip has been released that features returning lead Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) as he tries to convince the leaders of the Vatican to allow him access to the church’s archives. In typical Da Vinci Code fashion, the swelling music in the background screams, “we’re running out of time!” Isn’t it convenient this clip was released on Good Friday?
Check out the clip after the jump.
