This is an exciting week for moviegoers. After much controversy, The Watchmen is finally being released. The turn out is expected to rival that of the Dark Knight. Although if you’re looking for something else, another eye-catching film by visionaries Michel Gondry, Leos Carax, and Joon-ho Bong is Tokyo!. It’s a complete trip, check out the review coming soon. Then of course there is Dennis Quaid in the gory thriller The Horsemen, which doesn’t look like it has too much promise. We have another Fanning! Elle Fanning, sister of the ever-loved Dakota Fanning, stars in a Sundance-praised film called Phoebe in Wonderland. And from Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov comes a tale of a teenager being tried for the murder of his stepfather, 12.
There is much to be thankful for this week.
Here are the trailers so you can pick something to see after The Watchmen… Continue Reading

Well, apparently the embargo on Watchmen reviews has been lifted. So! To answer the question I’ve been asked many times over, “how was Watchmen?” Here we go! There is no doubt about it, it’s epic. It is unlike any other comic book movie you’ve ever seen. And in honor of Zack Snyder, I’ve made this review R-rated. So deal with it. It’s more real, more gritty, and sorry Dark Knight fans, more dark than any comic book film we’ve ever seen before. In comparison, it makes TDK look clean and shiny. Now don’t get out your pitchforks just yet, it’s depth may also be it’s biggest problem. I’m not sure if the box office is ready for such a dark comic book film. But this is a solid film, not just a superhero flick. Recently we stated that we did not think that TDK was worthy of an Oscar nomination because although is was an amazing film it did not transcend it’s genre and The Watchmen does. There is far more emphasis on the characters, the background, the relationships than there are fight scenes (although don’t get me wrong there are plenty of explosions and special effects for you to enjoy). The Dark Knight, opened a door and now The Watchmen has stepped through it.

Apparently director Zack Snyder couldn’t stay out of his own film The Watchmen. He had to find something to do. Why not get dressed up and pretend to blow something up! It was revealed today by still photographer Clay Enos on /Film that the officer in army fatigues behind The Comedian lighting enemies afire is in fact Snyder himself.

“Who watches the Watchmen?” For over a year everybody from die hard fans to fellow filmmakers have had their eyes on Zack Snyder’s adaptation of the DC comic. Labeled as “the most celebrated graphic novel of all time,” it’s no surprise that Watchmen is one of the most anticipated films of 2009. What has come as a shock, is the behind the scenes drama that has escalated between studio titans Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox. For the past year both companies have been submerged in a legal battle over the distribution rights for the film. If your like me, you have been following the drama, watching things go from bad, to worse, to down right nasty. In the past week, both sides have come forward in an attempt to share their side of the story. No one wants to be the bad guy in the case, but in my opinion they both have some explaining to do.

The Watchmen makes a statement about the War on Terror? Apparently, the people involved in the film wanted to take the graphic novel out of it’s alternate 1985 era and place it in one where George W. Bush was in comman, so that they could turn the movie into a story about War on Terror.
