The winner of the 2011 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay is Aaron Sorkin for The Social Network. Sorkin has been a favorite to win the trophy having swept all the other awards in this category. During his speech he said, “I wrote this movie but David Fincher made this movie.” So true. So true.
See who he beat out…

This is a very slow week for DVDs. Very slow. Like two movies and a smattering of TV shows-level slow. But there’s good new – the film of the year - The Social Network – makes its triumphant debut on DVD which means all the people I know who haven’t seen the movie yet can finally stop bugging me about when it comes out on DVD. Because it’s here! Not much else is here, but at least we’ve got one strong one! Check it out below…

The Social Network obviously hasn’t had enough time in the spotlight. Sony Pictures wants it to have more because the 18 Best Picture awards from various critic circles just aren’t cutting it. The studio has announced their plans to re-release The Social Network in theaters this Friday (January 7). Considering this week’s box office contenders, this might not be such a bad thing.

David Fincher’s The Social Network continues to plow its path to the Oscars by picking up its 18th Best Picture win. The latest honor comes from The Online Film Critics Society where it won three awards including the big one. Fincher also took home the award for Best Director and Aaron Sorkin won for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The 36th Los Angeles Film Critics Association has announced their winners, aside from David Fincher’s The Social Network sweeping many of the awards, the LA critics have a few dramatic twists in their awards list. To begin with they have a rather dark horse, Carlos, a mini-series that few people even know of getting a number of mentions and a number of other foreign films seeping their way into mainstream awards. Interestingly enough the Foreign films stand to win for “Best Foreign Film” and “Best Film” — not that I don’t support foreign films but doesn’t that feel a bit like cheating? And the fact that it’s more a mini-series than a film?

Well, another big win for The Social Network, taking in five of the fourteen awards from Boston Critics including a few of the most prestigious awards for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Screenplay! I’m guessing the jury members are big fans of Facebook? Though Fincher has had moments of cinematic genius and deserves praise for his work, and both Eisenberg and Sorkin have put solid work for sometime and it’s nice to see them receiving accolades, sadly the only thing I really agree with on this list is Roger Deakins winning the Best Cinematography award for True Grit.

It’s the month of December and the campaigning for next year’s Academy Awards is in full swing. Actors, directors, and writers want to get noticed and The Social Network star Justin Timberlake is one of them. The former ‘Nsync member and pop star has tried his best to establish himself as a serious actor and after his performance in David Fincher’s latest film we think he’s done it. According to Page Six, Timberlake is doing everything he can to secure an Oscar nomination for his performance as Sean Parker.

Prior to the release of The Social Network, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg made it pretty clear that he didn’t want anything to do with the movie. He didn’t help the filmmakers make it, he didn’t give input to the story, and he wasn’t interested in seeing it. Obviously that last bit has changed because he’s finally opened up about the movie and all the inaccuracies present in Aaron Sorkin’s screenplay. See what he had to say below…

Fall is officially in full swing, and that means that all the major movie studios are celebrating the season by releasing their Oscar-bait projects. These are the pictures that feature less “badass action” and more “sensitive, nuanced performances by Philip Seymour Hoffman and Sean Penn.” So, rather than reviewing all of these films individually, we decided to do what any dedicated movie-goer would do: judge them based on their trailers.
Let’s take a look and decide whether or not these films are likely to bag an Academy Award a few months from now…
