Wow, it is a very weak week here in the DVD release land. You have your pick of Anthony Hopkins as a priest fighting the devil, Jason Statham in an action movie that isn’t a Transporter or Crank sequel or Minka Kelly having to fend off Leighton Meester.
Not sure which movies those are? I don’t blame you, I forgot they’d all been released too. These films are The Rite, The Mechanic and The Roommate, respectively.
Yeah. Still a blank. Luckily, TV on DVD is coming up big with the second box set of an acclaimed documentary series. All that, plus a movie that actually seems worse than the three features.

Back in March we caught wind of the trailer for the remake of the 1970′s film The Mechanic. The original starred Charles Bronson and the new one features present day ass-kicker Jason Statham. It’s another hitman flick that centers on a veteran assassin who takes a young, less experienced killer (Ben Foster) under his wing. Originally, it was scheduled to hit theaters in December of 2010 but thanks to a purchase by CBS Films that’s all changed.

I love Donald Sutherland, but sometimes I question the projects he involves himself with. According to Variety, Sutherland along with Ben Foster have signed on to co-star in the Jason Statham film, The Mechanic. As you can imagine it’s an action oriented feature, and it’s a remake.
