A couple of clips from The Karate Kid remake starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith have popped up online. Even those of you who are hardcore purists dedicated to the original film should try and give it a chance. It doesn’t look that bad. In the following scenes we see Chan interacting with an anxious Smith who wants to learn his martial arts ways…
If you were a child of the eighties, more than likely you grew up watching the 1984 version of The Karate Kid. And if you were dedicated, you followed up with the two sequels, and if you were REALLY dedicated you watched the early nineties version with Hilary Swank.
With the exception of the last one, Ralph Macchio was the actor who brought us Daniel LaRusso, the title character in the original series. With a remake being released this summer, the actor has spoken out about his reaction to the film and whether or not he was open to doing a cameo.
It’s dangerous territory remaking the 1984 cult classic that brought us “wax on, wax off.” The 2010 version of The Karate Kid is simply a remake of the original premise but set in a different location. The film is produced by Will Smith, and is directed by Harald Zwart.
In the film Jaden Smith stars in the the lead as a troubled youth named Dre who encounters a severe bully when he is forced to move overseas to China due to a job his mother played by Taraji P. Henson has to take. In order to stop getting beaten up he has to learn how to fight with martial arts master Mr. Han played by Jackie Chan.
So, is the remake worth it?
It was just announced that the young star of The Karate Kid, Jaden Smith, son of Jada Pinkett and Will Smith has been named by ShoWest The Breakthrough Male Star of the Year. He’ll be presented with the award next Wednesday and the attendees at ShoWest will be the first to screen the film on the same day. Woohoo!

The first trailer dropped over the Christmas break, and now a couple of months later the new theatrical version has hit the net.

We all loved the original 1984 film that featured Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita so this will be a hard remake for a lot of people to swallow.
