Last year one of the biggest box office surprises was Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables. People came out in droves to see the campy send up of eighties action movies, causing it to earn an impressive $274 million worldwide. That was more than enough to compensate its $80 million budget, and it has the studio contemplating making another one. One of the many stars of the film was Jason Statham who recently gave an update on the pending follow up to the ass-kicking fest.

The ExpendablesDVDALP11 22 10 New DVD Releases: The Expendables, Eat Pray Love, Im Still Here

The major DVD Releases really run the gamut this week. There’s the mega-testosterone fueled thrill ride of The Expendables right alongside the estrogen-soaked introspection of Eat Pray Love. Something for everybody! Or the best argument yet for having two DVD players in the house. All that, plus a few indie films (including that infamous Joaquin Phoenix experiment) and a small smattering of TV on DVD.

The Expendables Get Ready 11 8 10 kc Weekend Box Office: Can The Expendables Really Be The Winner?

Can there even be a winner? Despite this being one of the weekends of summer vacation, it seems like overall this entire weekend was a bomb. Where was everyone? On Netflix? There were five new films released into theaters and yet The Expendables remained the champ with less than $17 million at the box office. Well done Sly, but what’s going on?! People seem to have had enough romantic comedies and even the popular duo of Aniston and Bateman wasn’t enough to draw people in.

Whenever a movie debuts at number one over the box office weekend, sequel talk immediately rears its ugly head. Sylvester Stallone’s latest flick, The Expendables crushed the competition last weekend by earning $35 million, which is quite a feat considering the the acting was so-so and the plot was non-existent. But let’s be serious, who was in it for those reasons? People saw the movie because they wanted to watch sh*t get blown up and that’s exactly what happened. Now there are rumors that Stallone might be up for another round with the cast, is The Expendables Part 2 in the works?

eric roberts 17 8 10 kc Eric Roberts: From The Expendables To Sharktopus

Last weekend something amazing happened, an over the top, slightly corny action movie filled with partially washed up actors debuted number one at the box office. Led by director and actor Sylvester Stallone, The Expendables trumped the competition which included Eat Pray Love and Scott Pilgrim vs The World. The biggest triumph here doesn’t come from the fact that Stallone is back on top, it’s the fact that his co-star Eric Roberts is. Who would have thought that we’d see a day when he’d beat his little sister Julia in a box office brawl?

sly roberts8 16 10 Weekend Box Office: Blood Beats Food

Sly Stallone and his gang of bad-asses went head to head with Ms. Roberts and her plethora of food this weekend and America has decided with their dollars! The winner (by a fairly long-shot) is… BLOOD and GUNS over delectables and praying. Good to know what’s in your heart of hearts America! Sadly you still all picked the wrong movie. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World seems to be pulling a Kick-Ass. Two great films, completely under-appreciate. Shame on you!

This week a lot of ass-kicking movies are hitting the theater including Scott Pilgrim vs the World and The Expendables. Pilgrim is based on the comic of the same name and stars Michael Cera as a guy who must defeat his girlfriend’s seven evil exes if he wants to continue dating her. It’s directed by Edgar Wright and is filled with colorful graphics, amped up fight scenes, and lots of comedy. On the grittier side we have Sylvester Stallone, and 90 percent of the world’s top action stars in The Expendables. It’s a film about “guns for hire” who try to take down a corrupt, South American dictator. It co-stars Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li.

The Expendables Get Ready 11 8 10 kc The Expendables: Movie Review

After revisiting Rocky and Rambo, Sylvester Stallone made it his business to go out and produce the manliest film of all time. The Expendables is a huge balls-to-the-wall production filled with bullets, fists, and fire. He takes some of the top action stars of yesterday and today and creates an elite team of deadly “good guys” who have no problem ripping out someone’s throat if the occasion calls for it. This film is over the top, extremely violent, and has some of the cheesiest eighties dialogue written 20 years too late — and you’ll love every minute of it!
