This week we have Monsters vs. Aliens for the kiddies and childlike adults out there. The Dreamworks animated film stars Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogan, Will Arnett, Hugh Laurie, and Kiefer Sutherland. Whew! The animation for the movie looks pretty amazing, and it looks like it would be pretty incredible to see in IMAX 3D.

Next on the list is the directorial debut of Fred Durst (read interview) with The Education of Charlie Banks. This would be interesting to watch simply because it is such a career change for a rock-rap singer from the late 90′s, and apparently it’s not bad. The Haunting in Connecticut is based on the true story of a family living in, you guessed it, a haunted house. Last but not least, we have 12 Rounds, the action packed film starring WWE’s John Cena. It doesn’t really matter what the plot is, it has John Cena in it! Enough said.

Here are the movie releases this weekend (3/27/09):

freddurst09 3 24 Fred Durst Interview on Directing The Education of Charlie Banks

Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has always wanted to be a filmmaker. He just happened to get sidetracked by the whole rock star thing. After making a conscious decision to take a break from the multi-platinum selling band, he decided to get serious and focus on making his dream come true, and he came across The Education of Charlie Banks, set in the early 80′s against the backdrop of Greenwich Village. Feeling that he could relate to both the Ivy League Charlie (Jesse Eisenberg) and the violent, dangerous Mick Leary (Jason Ritter), Durst was passionate about bringing the script to the screen the way he envisioned it.

In person, Durst is well-spoken, laid-back and very clear about what he wants, both personally and professionally. Reuniting all the original members, Limp Bizkit is getting ready to tour together for the first time in eight years, but once that tour is finished, the 38-year-old from North Carolina has set his sights on directing Psycho Killer, starring Mickey Rourke.

fred durst Do You Think Fred Durst Can Direct?

You all remember Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst who sang “shut the fuck up, shut the fuck up…” (inspiring words indeed). A few years back he decided to add directing to his list of talents. The Education of Charlie Banks, was premiered at Tribeca in 2007, and has just recently received a trailer and may be released into theaters. Not that I’m trying to judge a film by it’s trailer, but do you think that this film looks any good?
