George Lucas has been talking about Red Tails for over two decades. He started dishing on the project around 1988, and even as he was going into production on the prequel trilogy, the title kept popping its head out. Lucas was supposed to direct, then he decided to back seat it as the executive producer. Instead TV journeyman Anthony Hemingway was brought in to direct and shooting commenced in 2009. Nobody gets to rush Lucas, though, so the film is now targeting a January 2012 release. Check out the trailer…

Last week we were told that Terrence Howard would not be reprising his role as Col. James Rhodes in Iron Man 2. The studio said that it was because of “financial differences, among other reasons.” We were also told that Don Cheadle would be stepping into the role to replace Howard. Many fans were upset that Howard would turn his back on the role because of money. But as time goes on, the truth (maybe) begins to surface.
Howard himself told NPR that he didn’t know anything about any negotiations. In fact he learned about Cheadle taking his place and him not coming back the same way everyone else did, on the Internet. Ouch. Howard said:
“It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. [The contract] just … up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren’t worth the paper that they’re printed on, sometimes. Promises aren’t kept, and good faith negotiations aren’t always held up.”

As Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau gear up for Iron Man 2 they will be leaving behind a certain member of the cast. Terrence Howard, who played Col. James Rhodes in the first Iron Man has decided not to reprise his role and none other than leading man Don Cheadle will be stepping in to replace him. It’s not often that a celebrity decides not to come back to a role that was in one of the most successful films of the year. This is kind of like when Maggie Gyllenhaal took over Katie Holmes role in the new Batman series, except Holmes had a baby, I don’t think that Howard will be having that problem.
