In February of 2010, the rights of the Terminator franchise will be up for grabs thanks to the legal problems of current owner Halcyon. Even with the drama over who will own what and when, Terminator Salvation director McG is confident that he’ll still be on board for not only a 5th but a 6th sequel.
There’s a reason why Joss Whedon has such as strong fan base. It’s because he’s talented, honest, and down right funny when he wants to be. Earlier this morning we brought you news that the Terminator franchise rights are being auctioned for sale this month, and several studios are interested in making the purchase. Well, the first official bid is coming from Whedon, who has sent out a letter listing his bid amount, as well as a few ideas he has in mind for the series.
It’s hard to believe that something as epic as the Terminator mythology could have a price tag, but it does. Over the past few months it’s been no secret that the producers who own the rights to Terminator have been involved in a heated legal battle over the property. According to the Financial Times, the franchise rights will officially be auctioned off this month, so how much is the series worth to Hollywood?
Halcyon Holding Group, which owns the Terminator franchise has been forced to restructure its infrastructure. HHG filed for Chapter 11 protection last month and has now hired FTI Capital Advisors to evaluate strategic alternatives for the company. Halcyon’s in a dispute with Pacificor, the Santa Barbara based hedge fund company that financed Halcyon’s purchase of the Terminator franchise.
Recently the production of the Terminator Salvation follow up has come into question. Over at the LATimes, they gave a rundown of all of the recent road blocks the film has encountered within the past few months. The luke warm response to the fourth installment didn’t exactly encourage studio execs to shell out money for another one. So, with so many issue to draw from, is Terminator 5 in trouble?
After this summer’s lukewarm response to Terminator Salvation, fans began to wonder what could be done to repair the franchise. A fifth Terminator is already in the works, but will it be able to save us from the blunders us its predecessor? While promoting his upcoming film Public Enemies, Christian Bale gave Collider some details on his upcoming role in Fighter including a possible start date. Until now, nothing had been confirmed for the film, but Bale’s biceps seem to think they’re going to begin shooting soon. He seems to be eager to jump into Fighter, not only because it’s being made by recently Academy Award nominated Director Darren Aronofsky but because of the fact that he has been boxing like crazy to get in shape for the role.
Bale also spoke breifly about the chances of Batman 3 and Terminator 5 being made.

This weekend Terminator Salvation and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian are going to be battling it out at the box office, but who will bring in the most viewers and which one is actually worth seeing?
Terminator and Night at the Museum, both have their ups and downs. The big difference is that Terminator is a serious, end of the world film and Night at the Museum is about a fun romp through a museum.
So who will dominate the box office this weekend?
