In a serious of example of Twitter’s power and its danger when used irresponsibly, Spike Lee is catching heat for “inciting racial violence” by retweeting the home address of a private citizen to his nearly 250,000 Twitter followers over the weekend while justifiably decrying the controversial murder of a teen boy by a neighborhood watch captain in Florida. Full details after the jump.

Spike Lee is back! He premiered his latest joint, Red Hook Summer this week at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival to a sold out crowd of 1300, and it has become one of the most talked about films of the festival. In a return to form (and Brooklyn), Lee brings back the colorful visual and storytelling style (and even a few characters!), that made him famous with Do The Right Thing. As usual, he doesn’t pull any punches, and left audiences with a lot to discuss. Check out the rest of the review after the jump…

There was a joke around the time Dreamgirls came out that Eddie Murphy took the role because – after years of bad movies - he needed to hit bottom to be forced to work hard. But even with an Oscar nomination, he followed Dreamgirls with Norbit and a string of forgettable comedies. Perhaps he’s being forced to do good work again as he’s attached now to an HBO bio-pic of DC mayor Marion Berry with Spike Lee set to direct, according to Deadline.

Josh Brolin and writer/director Spike Lee have enough respect to quiet naysayers. And that’s exactly what happened when Josh Brolin was cast in Lee’s remake of 2003′s Oldboy. The original is a cult Korean film by Chan-wook Park that won the Grand Prize at Cannes (and is currently in the top 100 films of all time according to IMDb), and originally fans were perturbed that anyone would consider such a remake. But the tide has turned, and there’s new goodwill for the project that comes from Brolin and Lee.

Spike Lee recently complained that he couldn’t get Inside Man 2 made, which pointed out that it’s been five years since that film hit theaters. Lee’s mostly worked in the documentary field, though he did make The Miracle at St. Anna, a film that could have been great, but isn’t. Perhaps Lee’s recent talks about money and not working has led to him being in contention to direct the remake of Oldboy, as Twitchfilm noted.

Spike Lee is back on television with another documentary entitled If God is Willing And Da Creek Don’t Rise. The acclaimed director’s two-part series centers on the rebirth of New Orleans after the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina several years ago. Creek is a follow up to Lee’s 2006 award winning film When the Levees Break: A Requiem in Four Acts but it takes the focus off the damage and puts it on the restoration of the city. Check out the trailer…

Has everyone forsaken Spider-Man? First the idea of a reboot was shoved down our throats and now we’re hearing that the stage adaptation is hitting the skids too. Evan Rachel Wood was set to star as one of the most important characters in the Spidey universe, Mary Jane Watson, but now she’s out.

Not much for new feature films on DVD this week, with only a Jonas Brothers concert movie and the last film Joaquin Phoenix made before he became whatever it is that he is now.
Luckily, the TV on DVD shelves are exploding with HBO series galore and some sci-fi hits. Plus, there’s the 20th Anniversary of Spike Lee’s classic ‘Do the Right Thing’ and the three worst DVDs you’ll find anywhere.
