This week brings some great Criterion titles, a solid David Cronenberg film, and some of the worst films from the end of the 2011–both Oscar nominated flicks and kiddie movies. Hey, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was nominated for Best Picture, so it can’t be all that bad, can it? (Answer: Yes it can). Check out the highlights of this week’s releases….

Oh, in the name of Xenu, this is silly. Turns out that the Church of Scientology, long known its sense of humor and ability to take a joke or insult, wasn’t too happy with the 2005 episode of South Park entitled “Trapped in the Closet,” in which SP creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone leaked the fundamental (and heretofore confidential) belief of Scientology—that 75 million years ago, a space tyrant named Xenu ran a Galactic Confederacy, and this Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in a spaceship that bizarrely resembled a 1960s jet airliner, dropped the people into some volcanoes, and then blew the volcanoes up with hydrogen bombs, and that the remnants of those detonated bodies cling to us today and make us all impure.

What kind of world do we live in when parodies aren’t safe from plagiarism? One of the biggest films of the past summer was Christopher Nolan’s fantasy flick Inception. It was a box office and critical success, which left the whole world confused as to what it was about. Several parody videos popped up following its release including one from College Humor.com, which we posted ourselves. Now here’s where it gets tricky. In last week’s episode of the Comedy Central hit “South Park” they also aired a parody of the film and it used some of the same dialogue that was present in the College Humor version.

We knew that the MTV super hit “Jersey Shore” wouldn’t skate by untouched by those comedic geniuses over at “South Park.” Sooner or later, the show would go in on them and they recently did. They gave them their best, especially the dwarf of the group, Snooki. She was portrayed as some half human half creature of the night, which we can’t find the right words to describe. You’ll just have to see for yourself…

Last night marked the mid-season premiere of “South Park,” with the episode entitled “Poor and Stupid.” It kicked off the new season with a reliable bang centered on the perceived culture of NASCAR – a topic that’s always fair game for an innocuous laugh. But because it’s “South Park,” they shit on the innocuous part and give us even more reason to simultaneously love/hate Eric Cartman.
Check out our review…

Die hard fans of the Comedy Central series “South Park” have been voicing their opinions over the recent threats that were made towards the show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Shortly after the airing of last week’s 200th episode a warning was posted on an Islamic website telling Parker and Stone to stop their portrayals of the Prophet Mohammad (he appeared in a bear suit) or they would face some serious consequences down the line. So what do you think happened in episode 201? They got censored!

Last week Comedy Central aired the 200th episode of the animated series “South Park” and creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone did their best to make it as offensive as possible. That’s what the show is known for and they delivered 200 celebrities and pop culture icons one of whom was a religious figure. According to FoxNews, the appearance of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad as a mascot bear has caused a serious stir in the Muslim community.

Those animated sh*t talkers from Comedy Central’s long running series “South Park” know a thing or two about poking fun at pop culture.
