With so many movies that, er, struggled with quality being released on DVD this week, I thought it prudent to blow out the format and play a little game in this week’s DVD picks column.
It’s quite simple. We will list ten DVD’s coming out this week along with a description from the manufacturer of what the movie is about, complete with some of the cast. It’s up to you to decipher which of these movies went straight to DVD and which actually premiered in a theater! (Hint: Seven bowed at a theater and three made the humiliating journey straight to DVD)
You may be able to get three of them, but I think you’ll find it pretty tough to get the other three. It’s just sort of that week in DVD land.

After two whole weeks at the top, Little Fockers (movie review) have surrendered the No. 1 spot to the charms of Hailee Steinfeld of True Grit (movie review) — oh yeah, and the amazing Jeff Bridges (interview), Matt Damon, Barry Pepper and Josh Brolin. The Coen brothers western grossed a successful, yet humble $15 million. Unfortunately the new Nicolas Cage movie, Season of the Witch (review roundup) failed to bring in audiences (could that have to do with the fact that it seems like they forgot to market it?) came in at No. 3, bringing in a bit over $10 million.

Do you remember hearing about an old school horror movie featuring Nicolas Cage, a bad wig, and an imprisoned girl? The film was called Season of the Witch and the last time we heard anything about it was in November of 2009. What the heck happened? When something goes that long without being mentioned we assume the worse but the people behind the film aren’t giving up. A while ago we brought you a short teaser trailer for Nicolas Cage‘s upcoming film, Season of the Witch. It was literally a blink and you missed it kind of a thing, so Lionsgate decided to put out a new one. The theatrical trailer obviously shows a lot more footage, but it still doesn’t help the direct to DVD quality it has going on.
