Sam Worthington has been dominating the action market because after 10 years as a serious indie star in his native Australia, he wanted a piece of the Hollywood pie. We’ve seen him as a cyborg, a blue humanoid, and a demi-god, but can you imagine him as a comedic character? According to Vulture, Worthington might reunite with his Terminator Salvation director McG in the romantic comedy, This Means War.
Sam Worthington has made it his business to take on every blockbuster role imaginable. If you’ve got a film that’s in the action, fantasy, or sci-fi genre his Australian ass will be all over it! His latest conquest comes courtesy of the literary hero Allan Quatermain who he’ll play in a live action adaptation for DreamWorks.
Are you ready for Clash of The Titans 2? If you’re not, too bad because Warner Bros is producing it anyway. The 3D remake of the classic 1981 film has earned over $388 million worldwide and the studio wants more. According to Deadline, expect to see Sam Worthington sporting his leather skirt and shield one more time.
Clash of the Titans will finally blast into theaters this weekend after a release date shuffle and a mundane 3D upgrade. The film is a remake of the 1981 Desmond Davis classic that hammers out all the stiff, campy elements we loved to make a gritty hard-hitting epic. The lead character doesn’t have any boyish charm or feathery hair, instead Sam Worthington takes over as Perseus the demigod son of Zeus, the only one who can stop Hades and his pet the Kraken from destroying mankind.
Over the past year we’ve seen actor Sam Worthington take on machines, aliens, and even a few humans so we won’t be surprised when he enters an epic battle with the gods in Clash of the Titans. The film is a remake of the 1981 classic that was originally directed by Desmond Davis. This time around, Incredible Hulk helmer Louis Leterrier is bringing the story to life with Worthington leading the way.
At this point in his career, you’d think the actor would be jaded by all the hoopla surrounding his films. He headlined the highest grossing movie of all time with Avatar, and now he’s playing the son of Zeus, King of the gods. His character’s name is Perseus, and unlike his predecessor Harry Hamlin, his portrayal of the demigod depends more on his courage and strength than his boyish good looks. When we spoke to Worthington he was very excited about the release of the film, and interested to see fans reaction to Leterrier’s modernized take. There’s more action, better special effects, and this Australian kid with a buzz cut who’s become Hollywood’s new golden boy.
Clash of the Titans won’t hit theaters until April 2nd, but you can watch footage from the 3D Greek epic right now.
