It’s no secret that Marvel didn’t originally want Robert Downey Jr. to play Iron Man because they weren’t sure if he could get asses in the seats. Director Jon Favreau on the other hand was more concerned with finding someone who had the right amount of charisma and attitude to make the character a likeable badass. Since Downey is the living personification of liquid cool you’d think Favreau would have noticed him right away but apparently he wasn’t his first choice either.

Last week Paramount released six photos from next month’s Iron Man 2 (can you believe it’s almost here?) that featured Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, his alter ego Tony Stark, and Mickey Rourke as the villain Whiplash. It’s been a long time since the movie going public has seen Robert De Niro in a role that didn’t capitalize off of his gangster movie past. A trailer has been released for the actor’s latest film entitled, Everybody’s Fine. De Niro takes on the role of a patriarch who’s trying to reconnect with his adult children after the death of their mother. The movie is a remake of Cinema Paradiso director Giuseppe Tornatore’s film Stanno Tutti Bene.

***Update: We also have video of director Jon Favreau introducing the cast to the panel.
Well, Comic-Con is officially coming to an end. However, we still have lots of stuff for you to check out from this crazy weekend. The Iron Man 2 panel yesterday was in such high demand, and there were so many people that were shut out of Hall H at the convention center. They missed out on a pretty awesome trailer, but you can read about it in our first look and watch our sweded video that we made last night.
Anyways back to the point, we were able to get in and record the panel discussion and fan questions for you! The panel had a large portion of the cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Sam Rockwell, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, and the director, Jon Favreau. They talked about Mickey Rourke, the tone of the new film, how close they stayed to the stories, and answered other fan questions.
In case you are interested, you may want to check out our live blog from the Iron Man 2 panel, Jon Favreau talking about a possible Avengers movie, and our coverage from the other Robert Downey Jr. movie, Sherlock Holmes.

Duncan Jones‘ first feature film, Moon, starring Sam Rockwell with the voice Kevin Spacey, hits theaters today, June 12th. If I could recommend any film to you this year, it would be Moon. It gets me excited just thinking about it. It has everything, drama, intensity, visual effects, and most importantly a greater meaning for you to walk away with.
What’s funny is that this film is being released the same weekend as The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 which is the exact opposite film. For however pointless and tiresome Pelham is, Moon is equally as meaningful and intriguing.
Check out the good, the bad, and the plot below…
