This week in theaters, actor Jesse Eisenberg reunites with Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer in one of the most easy-to-watch, entertaining comedies of the summer, 30 Minutes or Less. From its stellar comedic cast to it’s fast-paced storyline that never leaves you hanging, I found this to be one of the most straight-forward movies that delivers what we all want when we go to see a comedy, lots of laughs in 83 minutes, no more no less…

One of my favorite films of the summer is on it’s way into theaters with a bang. 30 Minutes or Less starring Jesse Eisenberg is a fast-paced, easy-to-watch, extremely funny comedy with some fine performances and a storyline that won’t leave you hanging. Though we were able to speak to the film Ruben Fleischer while he was on the set of the film (read interview), I also had the chance to catch up with him recently for a one on one to find out more now that the film is all said and done and what he has going on in the future (it’s really cool!)…

If you’re going to end on a high, it’s good to have one as good as the punchline to “you just brought a gun to a bomb show.” The latest trailer for 30 Minutes or Less - which stars Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride and Nick Swarsdon – is red banded, so the jokes are filthier and also hilarious. The film opens August 12, and the new trailer is their best ad yet. Check it out…

Back in August of 2010, which now seems like a million years ago now, I had the privilege of attending the set of Ruben Fleischer‘s upcoming comedy 30 Minutes or Less. They shot the film out in Michigan (good tax breaks!) and we were able watch them shot a scene in which Danny McBride and Nick Swardson strap a bomb to Jesse Eisenberg and mess him up a bit. The scene was supposed to be (and actually was shot) in a junk yard, though they re-decorated their area of the junk yard to look more cinematic (gotta love Hollywood!).
The day was hot and long and much like any set, there was a lot of down time and setting up. As we all know comedy is a serious business and though Ruben’s films are hilarious, while on set he’s extremely serious and on point. What gives him his edge is that he seems to create an environment that’s professionally run, and yet he still encourages and pushes his actors to take risks and most importantly, play!

Warner Bros has finally nailed down a director to take on the film Tales From the Gangster Squad and it’s none other than Ruben Fleischer! The Zombieland helmer originally became a candidate for the gig back in November along with Jose Padilha and Scott Cooper. Prior to taking on The Wolverine, Darren Aronofsky was being courted for the job as well as Ben Affleck, but Fleischer came out on top.

Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer has landed a new gig! Instead of fighting off the undead he’s going to take on a Babe in the Woods. His latest project was announced today by Columbia Pictures Presidents Matt Tolmach and Doug Belgrad and even though the title sounds eerily familiar this is no children’s tale. This will be an action-comedy about a young woman being hunted down by the mob!

After the critical and commercial success of the horror comedy, Zombieland it’s no surprise that director Ruben Fleischer has been swamped with more movie offers. According to Reuters, the world is Fleischer’s oyster and several high profile projects have been thrown his way. The question is what will he choose, and what will he pass on?

Grab the nearest thing to you that could be considered a weapon and come on down to Zombieland, where you get points for the most creative way to kill a zombie! Actually, leave the weapons at home, Ruben Fleischer’s film will supply you with all the comedic violence you’ll need. If you loved Drag Me to Hell you’ll be glad to see that there is another movie out there for you to laugh at cringe all at the same time.

Last week out on Santa Monica pier Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, director Ruben Fleischer and the two writers of the film Rhett Reese and Paul Wernic all got together once again (check out the videos from the press conference at Comic-Con) to talk about Zombieland! I kind of wish they would have had some people, better yet, children like the one above dressed as zombies to jump out and scare the journalists. Sadly, that never happened, although they did talk about killing them some zombies, Harrelson’s plea to Hostess to make a healthy Twinkie, their most cathartic moments in making it, and of course, the mysterious CAMEO which shall go un-named… for now.
Check out what the group had to say about making a comedic zombie film…
