It’s a big day for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo news. Today the embargo broke, and non-David Denby types can review the picture willy-nilly. We’ll have our review closer to release, but along with that, Sony has announced that David Fincher‘s latest opus will be hitting screens Tuesday, December 20 at 7 pm, instead of its scheduled December 21 opening.

Today FilmNation has announced that Terrence Malick will be shooting two films next year, on top of the two films he supposedly shot this year (maybe one was footage for one of these), both starring Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett and 2011 poster boy Ryan Gosling. For a director who took nearly two decades to return to cinema, this is unprecedented.

David Fincher now believes in viral marketing! The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which will be hitting theaters just in time for Christmas, first had a bootleg trailer that sold Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the film with the sort of fast cutting one expects of Fincher. Now they’ve released an extended trailer (not intended for theaters) that sets up the entire film. Check it out.

Wednesday morning the world got their first official look at the new Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. The role was originated by Scandinavian actress Noomi Rapace, and is being reinvented by Rooney Mara for American audiences. The film is directed by David Fincher, and even though he’s known for his signature style he obviously tries to keep the characters as close to the book as possible. After heavy media attention and a whirlwind production, David Fincher’s latest film The Social Network is hitting theaters. The film is based on the book “The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal” that follows company founder Mark Zuckerberg from his humble beginnings as an anti-social Harvard student to becoming the youngest billionaire in the country. With that being said, you don’t get that much success, that quickly, without stepping on a few toes along the way.
