We watch a lot of movie trailers here at ScreenCrave, and, as we inch closer to summer with its ever-increasing torrent of new films, we’re seeing more and more previews with each passing day. As we do so, we can’t help but notice some similarities, repetitions, and clichés among them. Here at Trailer Park, we’ll be offering a rundown of those clichés, where they come from, and which trailers share them. For our first installment, we’ll be breaking down one of summer’s most ever-present previews: The Bromance Movie Trailer.

Box Office Numbers: Oh Yeah… Bond Beat Them All

quantumofsaolceme08 11 17 Box Office Numbers: Oh Yeah... Bond Beat Them All

I’m sad to see that Slumdog Millionaire and A Christmas Tale didn’t make it to the top 10. Overall things have stayed relatively in the exact same order as last week, except Quantum of Solace knocked everything down a peg as it took the number one spot with a HUGE lead. Eagle Eye got bumped off the bottom (saw that coming) and The Secret Life of Bees is the only fims that managed to jump up a spot in front of the two horror films. The most successful film so far is definitely High School Musical 3. That film was made for $11 million and has already grossed eight times that. And don’t think the DVD won’t bring in just as much.

Here is this week’s box office numbers with total grosses, production costs, and more…

Weekend Box Office: Madagascar 2 Murders High School Musical 3

madagascarbo08 11 10 Weekend Box Office: Madagascar 2 Murders High School Musical 3

Well, I don’t think it comes as too big of a surprise. Madagascar: Escape to Africa grossed the same amount as all the other films combined. Although Role Models had a solid opening, and had it been another weekend it probably would would have made it to number 1. The Changeling, creeped into the top 5 last week and seems to have dug it’s claws in. That film is definitely a grower. I bet it hangs around until Christmas. And good news for Eagle Eye, after 6 weeks it looks like they finally covered costs! Woohoo!

Here is this week box office numbers….

Making the Grade: Review of “Role Models”

rolemodelsreviewround up08 11 05 Making the Grade: Review of Role Models

Starring: Paul Rudd, Seann William Scott, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bobb’e J. Thompson

Directed by: David Wain

So I went into this film with meager expectations despite the promising cast and director (Stella’s David Wain) attached to the project.  Having expected mediocrity proved to be a blessing in disguise as I was overwhelmed with the amount of laughter that Role Models was able to produce from myself and the entire audience.  And I am speaking completely on a literal level.  There was a middle-aged man in the theater that was asked to leave because he was laughing so loudly.

rolemodels08 10 15 Opening This Week: Madagascar 2, Role Models, Boy in the Striped Pajamas...

You’ve got some great movies to pick from these week. From soon to be classic The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, to soon to be cult classics like Repo! The Genetic Opera and House. Then of course you have your slew of comedies, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Role Models, and Soul Men. If you want a good comedy I think Role Models or Madagascar are both good picks. Personally I’m a Paul Rudd fan, but I love the penguins in Madagascar. If you’re up for something a but more moving I highly recommend The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Beautifully shot, amazing story, and well worth you time if you can find it.

Here are this weeks movie releases with reviews, showtimes and tickets, cast and crew information, and trailers! Enjoy…

Review Round-Up: Role Models

rolemodelsreviewround up08 11 05 Review Round Up: Role Models

New to cinemas this weekend, is Role Models starring Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott in a comedy about two energy drink salesmen who trash a company truck and have to spend 150 hours in a mentorship program instead of going to jail. The film is directed by David Wain and written by David Wain and Paul Rudd. Is it worth you $10? Overall critics seem to think it’s formulaic, but funny enough to make it worth your time. Check out our review round-up and decide for yourself…

THR: Writer-director David Wain jumps effectively into the movie mainstream with “Role Models,” a comedy that retains a bit of the sensibility and many cast members familiar from his previous films but should have no problem connecting with a wider audience… It’s a self-improvement comedy that hits every beat on time. – By John DeFore
