Last week we learned that Emma Stone would play Andrew Garfield’s love interest in Sony’s Spider-Man reboot and now it’s time to announce his nemesis! Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures revealed today that British actor Rhys Ifans has been cast as the villain in Spider-Man.
The stern babysitter with a magical cane has come back to the big screen in Nanny McPhee Returns. It’s a follow up to the 2005 film that starred Emma Thompson as an unconventional nanny who makes it her business to turn wild, unruly children into well behaved citizens. She tackles a new family with a new set of problems but as usual McPhee has the patience and know-how to get things done. Here’s our review…
Time for Nanny McPhee Returns a follow up and upgrade from the good ol’ fashioned PG film Nanny McPhee, a series reminiscent of Mary Poppins but for a slightly more modern generation. The cast is definitely enough to get me into the theater, Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rhys Ifans, Ewan McGregor, Ralph Fiennes and Maggie Smith – at least you know that the performances will be well done! And who can resistant the charming Thompson even when she has a tooth jutting out of her face? Apparently, Thompson also had a hand in adapting the children’s book “Nurse Matilda” written by Christianna Brand for the big screen, and this installment is directed Susanna White. Female power!

However, he finds himself spending time instead with his brother’s personal assistant Florence (Greta Gerwig), an aspiring singer and herself something of a lost soul. The film stars Ben Stiller, Rhys Ifans, Greta Gerwig, and Jeniffer Jason Leigh.

Rock ‘N’ Roll hits the high seas this week as Pirate Radio debuts in theaters from Love Actually and Four Weddings & A Funeral creator Richard Curtis. His latest film will storm the airwaves and movie screens with its unique blend of comedy, history, and some of the best music ever made. This could have been one the most entertaining musical/radio infused films produced, if it wasn’t for its muddled delivery. Find out what went right and what went wrong when we boarded Pirate Radio.

The latest film by Richard Curtis (Love, Actually), The Boat That Rocked, has been picked up by Focus Features for distribution in the United States. The movie is about the colorful DJs of a pirate radio station, that plays nothing but rock music, operating on a tanker off the coast of the U.K. The movie has a really solid cast, staring Nick Frost, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Kenneth Branagh, and Rhys Ifans.
The movie seems like it would be a slam dunk, but the reviews over in the U.K. have been less than stellar. Apparently, the biggest problem is the length of the film. In effort to salvage the movie before the U.S release date, Focus has decided to edit the 129 minute movie to make it shorter. The Boat That Rocked was originally supposed to hit U.S. theaters on August 28, but it has been pushed back to November. Focus president James Schamus stated, “It will be a shorter, leaner version…We think it is a real crowd-pleaser. We love a challenge, and we love working with Working Title.” Continue Reading
Sometimes I feel like the only person who actually ever “grew up” in LA. From the writer of American Psycho, The Rules of Attraction, and Less Than Zero, we get a dark, disturbing look at what it’s like to be in LA during the 80′s, in The Informers. With an all star cast consisting of Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Mickey Rourke, Winona Ryder, Jon Foster, Amber Heard, and Rhys Ifans this movie is sure to be a huge hit.
