Watch out everybody, Orlando Bloom is about to go epic… again. In his latest project he won’t play an elf, a swashbuckler, or a medieval warrior, just an average Joe who wants to go where no man has ever gone before! According to Variety, Bloom has signed on to star in The Cross. The film will be directed by Andrew Niccol, the same guy who brought you the Nicolas Cage blood bath Lord of War. Cross is categorized as a “science fiction escape story,” which will be set in a border town.
More on Cross after the jump.

I’m sad to see that Slumdog Millionaire and A Christmas Tale didn’t make it to the top 10. Overall things have stayed relatively in the exact same order as last week, except Quantum of Solace knocked everything down a peg as it took the number one spot with a HUGE lead. Eagle Eye got bumped off the bottom (saw that coming) and The Secret Life of Bees is the only fims that managed to jump up a spot in front of the two horror films. The most successful film so far is definitely High School Musical 3. That film was made for $11 million and has already grossed eight times that. And don’t think the DVD won’t bring in just as much.
Here is this week’s box office numbers with total grosses, production costs, and more…

I can quite honestly say, that this weekend deserves a triple feature. All three films coming out, big and small are absolutely amazing. Big weekend for Mathieu Amalric. He’s the star of Christmas Tale and the bad guy in Quantum of Solace. He’s a damn good baddy as well. It’s nice to see him in two great and yet completely different films at the same time. Then of course there’s the new Danny Boyle film, Slumdog Millionaire. Probably one of the best films to come out this year.
Really I can’t make a pick this week, there is just too much goodness!

I have to say I love Daniel Craig as Bond. My only warning is that his eyes are so blue it’s best if you don’t sit in the first 10 rows. They might melt your soul. If you’re worried about spoilers, don’t be. I won’t even give you the basic synopsis like everyone else. I think the more you know about what actually happens in the film the worse off you are.
Instead let’s talk about the film itself. There have been a number of films this year with a lot of promise that did not live up to expectations. You walk out of the theater, thinking it was good, but that the trailer was far more enjoyable. This is one of the first films that follows through on it’s promise. You walk out of the theater knowing you just saw something awesome. There may be some problems, but you really don’t care because it was just so much fun to watch.

More dependable than your 401k, this coming Friday, James Bond returns for his 23rd adventure in “Quantum of Solace”. It’s been well reviewed so far with a positive tomatometer, should lead the box office this weekend and has already broken box office records in the UK. Initially most were skeptical that Daniel Craig would prove a fitting heir to the Bond throne, but the popularity and boffo revenues from “Casino Royale” has put that skepticism to rest. However, how does Craig’s reboot of the venerable series compare to the others on an economic basis? Or to put it another way, which Bond gives more bang for the buck?

Quantum of Solace has been premiered already to the Brits! Damn them and their sneaky English accents. They appear to be so friendly and then they take Bond from you! Well I guess it was there’s first, but see if I care!
The premiere took place October 29th, in Odeon Leicester Square in London. The event was of course a star studded evening with attendance from the stars of the film to Prince Harry and Prince William. It was a truly royal affair.
Daniel Craig wore a bow tie, a red poppy (for remembrance), and of course a matching sling for his arm. I think that sling is beginning to just become a part of his wardrobe.
Dame Judi Dench showed up looking classic and gorgeous as always. Olga Kurylenko and Gemma Arterton seemed to be competing for wildest dress. Check out more pictures below.

Things aren’t looking so good for Bond. They may have set the bar a little too high with Casino Royale. Even though we’re still weeks away from opening night, less than enthusiastic reviews have started to spread on the web. Some people are stating that this is the best action film ever, others are not so kind. Apparently the films action sequences will blow your mind, but the witty banter has been dulled down for sex scenes and explosions. Maybe they would have been better off with a longer cut?
Check out some clips from reviews below:
