After weeks of misery, we finally (finally) get some movies that we may actually care about on DVD. Of course, that depends on how much you care about The Prince of Persia and Letters to Juliet. Buy, hey, at least they aren’t Killers!
If those flicks aren’t up your alley, don’t despair: There’s still plenty of excellent TV series hitting the silver disc this week including the number one comedy on television, arguably the funniest show on television, and this little show a about a show choir you might have heard about.

Whether you like action, horror, or chick-flicks, there’s something for everyone hitting theaters this week. Two major blockbusters have been released including the long awaited sequel Sex and the City 2, which brings Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) back to the big screen.
The other is Mike Newell’s action adventure, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, and Ben Kingsley. The film is based on a video game, which follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. Definitely worth checking out.

Jake Gyllenhaal is a great actor but his talent is completely wasted on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. If I could describe the film in one word it would be “boring.” This is supposed to be a blockbuster summer action flick and even though it’s being released at the right time, has the right producer (Jerry Bruckheimer), and the right studio backing it (Disney), it gets it all wrong!

Gemma Arterton is this summer’s hot blockbuster chick (although maybe it’s “bird” since she is English?). Ever since she seduced Bond a few years back, she’s been the girl to cast in your blockbuster not only for her looks but for her ability to capture your attention and deliver a line. From Clash of the Titans and now to Prince of Persia where she plays the most beautiful (and if you hadn’t noticed don’t worry, they make sure to point it out to you as often as possible) and argumentative princess in all the land, she’s traveled to many different eras and always come out on top.

There’s no doubt that Jake Gyllenhall is an extremely talented and loved actor, we’ve enjoyed watching him talk to an imaginary bunny in a theater and search for love in places he’s not supposed to, but we’re about to see him do something completely unexpected — lead a huge summer Jerry Bruckheimer film. The good news is, he’s not the only “real” actor in Prince of Persia, he’s surrounded by an impressive cast including Sir Ben Kinglsey and Gemma Arterton, but is that enough to make this blockbuster a success? We’ll see! Hopefully this won’t steer him away from any little indie gems in the future.
We had a chance to attend a video conference with Jake while he was in London and find out a little bit more about what it was like for him working on a Bruckheimer film with sets larger than life and enough extras to fill a city and how he prepared himself to be the lead in a huge summer blockbuster. The King-of-Action is back with Disney’s new video-game turned summer blockbuster, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, and Sir Ben Kingsley. If there’s one thing that Jerry Bruckheimer knows how to do is set up a landscape for destruction. He’s like a kid who now gets to recreate his fantasies with life sized toys.
The thing that has always impresses me about Bruckheimer is how calm and cool he is during interviews. You know the guy is one of the top producer’s in Hollywood who is known for making things explode, and yet he always wants to talk about story and actors. The man is definitely a pro at promotions. Check out how he topped himself once again with Prince of Persia and how he thinks he’ll be able to break the video-game turned movie curse below…
