A surprising almost-hit and pair of not too surprising flops hit DVD this week as Confessions of a Shopaholic, The Pink Panther 2 and Inhkeart roll onto disc. Luckily there is one film of quality being released, Waltz With Bashir.
Unfortunately, that’s about it for home theater lovers this week except for a pair of art films and couple TV series. At least we still have the three worst DVDs of the week for some unintentional comedy potential.

The Pink Panther 2 is coming out this weekend and what can I say, it’s got an amazing cast! The film stars, Steve Martin along with John Cleese, Andy Garcia, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer, and even has an appearance by Jeremy Irons if you can believe it. Andy Garcia appears in the film as a member of The Dream Team, which helps Insp. Jacques Clouseau who is played by Steve Martin (again) to find The Pink Panther (again).
Garcia has been busy the past few years with movies like The Pink Panther, but also his own independent projects such as City Island which he currently looking to distribute. Looks like he does little and big all at the same time!
Check out the interview below where Garcia talks about making Steve Martin blush on the set of Pink Panther 2, producing his own films, and much more...

NEW FEATURE FILMS
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz
This film just pulled off a massive upset by defeating Mamma Mia! for Best Picture at the Golden Globes, and why shouldn’t it? This is Woody Allen’s best work since Husbands and Wives as he paints a painfully comic portrait of how most Americans live their lives in fear.

NEW FEATURES
“Hancock”
Starring: Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron
There’s nothing more frustrating that a wasted premise, and this movie might be the most frustrating of them all. What a great idea! An alcoholic and depressed superhero that everybody hates. Seems like a perfect vehicle for an action comedy, precisely what this movie is for about 15 minutes until it becomes a ridiculous piece of melodrama.

Suddenly almost all the trailers I see are either films going for Academy Awards or soon to be released “kids” films. Now not all of these are kids films. Some of them are made for adults who are hung over, on a plane, or in some kind of way, looking for a distraction. Ever since Shrek, films have been getting a number of A-list movie stars to show up in animations or slap-stick comedies with adult-ish humor that both kids and adults can enjoy. Some succeed, some don’t. Looks like we’ve got a pretty impressive list to choose from with actors including Christopher Plummer, John Travolta, Emily Mortimer, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Steve Martin, Reese Witherspoon and more.
Check out the trailers and stats of the upcoming “kids” movies:
