Surprising news today: Paramount has decided to push G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘s June 29th release date back a whole nine months. They’ve probably realized that in a summer filled with Avengers, bats and cats, and Ridley Scott’s aliens, their toy-based action film didn’t stand a chance. Or perhaps it was Battleship‘s box office failure that sent them into full panic mode. Either way, Retaliation will hit theaters in 2013 “for 3D conversion.”

Oh, the Transformers franchise—a series of films about walking trucks from space that punch each other amidst a sea of inflammatory racial stereotypes, scantily-clad gals who think they’re in a Carl’s Jr. ad, and Shia LaBeouf’s sweaty, manic overacting.  Well, Transformers fans, you have one less thing to worry about concerning Transformers 4—Shia LaBeouf will not be returning to ruin it (but, you know, the overreliance on CGI, bloodless technical skill, and zero story whatsoever will probably still make it horrible).

Isn’t it nice when films actually make the world a better place? Director Davis Guggenheim and producer by Lesley Chilcott (check out our Sundance interview now) have had an effect before with An Inconvenient Truth) and now they’re doing it again with Waiting for Superman.

Paramount Pictures, Participant Media and Walden Media who picked up the film and have been promoting it since it’s wild success at Sundance, all jointly announced today that global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has joined the WaitingforSuperman.com “Pledge Progress Meter” by committing to provide $100,000 worth of new children’s books to U.S. libraries in need once 60,000 people pledge to see the award-winning documentary.
