Branding is one of the most popular tools in greenlighting a project these days. Why do you think there are so many remakes? It’s so studios can say there’s awareness before a frame of footage is shot. We’re still not through the worst of it. In 2008, there were a number of board games optioned to be turned into films, with Battleship set for next year and Candyland in development. But Ouija – based on the Ouija board – has been cancelled by Universal, which may mean that this trend is over before it started.

The wait is over. The battle has been won. McG has managed to outmaneuver Breck Eisner to direct the feature adaptation of the Ouija board game. A few weeks ago we reported that the duo both submitted pitches to Universal outlining their respective visions for the film and according to Heat Vision the studio has made their decision. McG has walked away victorious.

According to THR, the adaptation is still happening and Universal is narrowing down the candidates of possible directors. Two helmers are sitting pretty at the top of the list and they’re none other than McG and Breck Eisner.
