oblivion Reviews, Interviews & More
Summer is almost here, and you can tell that by the international numbers for Iron Man 3. The movie (which opens in less than a week stateside) has nearly cleared $200 Million internationally, which is nearly ten times what Pain and Gain made to top the box office in America.
It's the end of April, which means that the summer season starts next week with Iron Man 3 (which is really good). Until then, we get a Michael Bay movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, which would normally be a big summer event, but since this is Bay's small art film, it's being released with the hope of having little competition and a quick payday.
With one picture opening this weekend, it seemed inevitable that Oblivion would nab the top spot. And -- no surprise -- that's exactly what happened. But summer's not so far away, so it's a smaller victory in the scheme of things.
Oblivion serves as a great opener for the summer film season, containing the kind of big budgeted sci-fi thrills that popcorn munching movie-goers would expect with a twisty plot that will keep many chatting about the picture long after it's over. While the plot has its flaws, the movie is still enjoyable to watch from beginning to end.
When there's only one movie opening in wide release during a weekend (and it stars Tom Cruise), it's not hard to guess what's going to be the number one picture come Sunday. 42. Again (just kidding).
For years, Joseph Kosinski's been gradually working on the story for Oblivion. It's been revised multiple times, bobbing in and out of development. Luckily, the director's already familiar with sci-fi, thanks to his run on TRON: Legacy. Kosinski recently spoke to ScreenCrave and went into detail about what it took to...
A sci-fi world isn't complete without engaging characters to keep your attention at bay. When director Joseph Kosinski selected the cast for Oblivion, he needed the perfect people for its world. In came Morgan Freeman and Olga Kurylenko, both accomplished actors who have starred in blockbusters before. ScreenCrave recently spoke to the duo about taking part in such...
Olympus Has Fallen has an amazing cast. You're dealing with a variety of talent with some impressive credits. One of the strongest actors in the bunch is Melissa Leo. Taking its cues from Wall-E (a lonely sentinel of the future is tasked with clean-up and repair duties on an abandoned and uninhabited Earth, and he eventually meets another person who changes the course of his life) and The Matrix (in a futuristic dystopia, an underground army led by a super-serious guy in black clothes and rounded...

We got a poster for Oblivion recently, so it's no surprise we're now getting a trailer. Universal is likely hoping to put this in front of The Hobbit, where it will join a number of 2013 films that are hoping to be the next big thing. But Oblivion is weird. it comes from Joseph Kosinski, who directed...
Look, we're not saying that we didn't expect Oblivion to make its way into production, but the movie's fate was unknown for some time. Now the film wheels are turning for the project, made evident by the release of the official first poster below.
Do you think Tom Cruise learned his lesson? Do you think he looks at the years 2005 through 2010 as his "dark" period? Because he's headlining a number of huge Hollywood movies now that Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol made piles and piles of money. His latest is All You Need is Kill, and from the image below, we have to say we're...

Having made his name in commercial, Joseph Kosinski was a very hot director, and when he was tapped to take on Disney's Tron franchise, he was given the keys to the kingdom - albeit one with a number of catches. Disney seemed to want to be in the Kosinski business, and when they picked up his graphic novel Oblivion - which...
