Natalie Portman followed her beautiful Oscar winning performance in Black Swan with the casual Emma in No String Attached. The Ivan Reitman film was a financial success, but didn’t get much love from the critics. In a few weeks, Portman’s costar Mila Kunis is following her work in Black Swan with a Will Gluck romantic comedy titled Friends with Benefits. When the Benefits’ trailer hit the web, we had Deja Vu, but Blind Film Critic went the extra mile and created a trailer mashup to show audiences that Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached are the same film, just made by different studios.

Veteran director Ivan Reitman returns to the big screen this weekend with his latest film, No Strings Attached . It’s a non-romantic comedy about two friends, who decide to use each other for sex and nothing more. The film stars Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher as the unconventional couple, who act out some strange scenarios as their characters. We sat down and spoke with the duo about their latest feature, which centers heavily on casual sex. Despite all the debauchery they assure you that safe sex is the best sex, and at the end of the day, this movie is more about female empowerment than anything else.

Last weekend’s box office winner The Green Hornet will find itself sliding to the number two spot because Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman’s No Strings Attached should have enough steam to plow the competition. Moviegoers will find themselves catching up with last weekend’s Golden Globe winners as well as leftover holiday fare such as Little Fockers and Tron Legacy. All in all it should be an interesting weekend at the theater.
And now on to our predictions…..

This week in the theaters Ivan Reitman’s raunchy comedy No Strings Attached, based off one of the hottest scripts from the blacklist by Liz Meriwether hits theaters with the odd duo of Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher and one hell of a supporting cast (sans Ludacris — what was he doing here?). The film deals with something we all love to watch, talk about, and do — have sex. From graphic sex scenes and period jokes, to Natalie Portman starring at Ashton Kutcher’s cock with 3D glasses saying things like “it looks like it’s coming at me” (and right before her Oscar too… bad timing) this is not you average rom com — though that doesn’t save it from the mundane cliches that plague this genre. That being said Reitman is a master at his job, whether it be producing or directing, the man knows his craft. I was surprised to find that even he has trouble within his job, apparently directing past 50 is even harder than getting started at 20 — and having a son that people want over you is not always the easiest.
Find out how he keeps going, what gets him excited, why Liz Meriwether is the new writing force to be aware of in town, and his explanation as to why sex is still so scary for the ratings board….
