Reunited and it feels so good! Neill Blomkamp will once again team up with his District 9 star Sharlto Copley for his latest film, Elysium. According to an exclusive report from Deadline, like District 9, Elysium will be another sci-fi film that has outer worldly elements and a political undertone. In other words, they’re sticking with a formula that works. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Neill Blomkamp is turning down offers left and right. The South African newcomer recently made a name for himself with his mid-budget sci-fi alien film District 9. Now, Blomkamp is being offered films with huge budgets, however, he’s not having it. In a recent interview with LA Times‘ Hero Complex writer Geoff Boucher, the Johannesburg native shared his ideas about big-budget filmmaking, the Hollywood Machine, and a possible sequel for District 9.
This past weekend the little engine that could District 9, dominated the box office with a hefty 37 million dollars in box office receipts. The Neill Blomkamp directed and Peter Jackson produced flick has got critics and viewers in a tizzy over their need for more Prawns! In a typical Hollywood move, sequel talk has reared its ugly head and people are yearning for a possible District 10.

August 14th is finally here and the highly anticipated film District 9 is currently running in theaters all across the country. It seemed like this day would never come for the Peter Jackson, Neill Blomkamp collaboration. Now that it’s available for the public, the pressure is on. For those of you who were lucky enough to a have already seen the film you’ve got to let the rest of us know, does it live up to the hype?

I love moments like this. Moments where you know something pretty amazing is about to happen… That things might actually change for the better. I am giddy for the rest of the world, and for you. At 12:00 a.m., on August 135h, District 9 a new film directed by Neill Blomkamp (watch interview part 1, part 2) produced by Peter Jackson, and starring Sharlto Copley (watch interview) is going to be unleashed upon unsuspecting moviegoers. And if you’re smart, you’ll have your ass in one of those seats and your shoes stuck to the ground from spilled Cherry Pepsi.
So here is goes…
I know we already have a video interview with Neill Blomkamp for District 9 up on the site from Comic-Con. But like I said in that interview, I hadn’t seen the movie yet, after seeing the film I had a whole new list of questions. When I went to interview the star of the film Sharlto Copley (watch interview), in which he repeatedly said “that’s because of how amazing Neill is,” I was able to snag a couple of minutes with Neill again. Although he seemed eager to talk, his those around him seemed eager to leave after a long day.

Over at IGN, they’ve posted a few new production stills from Neill Blomkamp‘s sci-fi film, District 9. The movie is produced by Peter Jackson and will hit theaters on August 14, 2009. District 9 is a high concept film about a race of aliens who land on earth and instead of taking over the planet, they become second class citizens among humans.

Producer Peter Jackson, Director Neill Blomkamp, and star Sharlto Copley, all sat down at a press conference for a good solid 35 minutes at Comic-Con to talk about their upcoming film District 9. Everything we’ve seen from this film looks absolutely amazing and everyone involved is proof that you either have the film-gene or you don’t. These three men were made to make films, and with a push from Jackson, they’e all been able to create an amazing film.

Yesterday I got a chance to sit down with Neill Blomkamp at Comic-Con 2009 to talk about his upcoming film, the Peter Jackson produced movie which is about to hit theaters is August. Neill has done what many film-makers dream to do — made a short film that got the attention of an A-list Director, who then decided to take him under his wing and let him make a huge studio movie however the hell he wanted to.
