Having been building award steam since November, it looks like Michel Hazanavicius‘s The Artist is an unstoppable juggernaut of Oscar-sized proportions. Its latest victory is winning the Producer’s Guild Award for best picture, and it should get more than a handful of nominations when the Oscar nominees are announced tomorrow. It’s an Emmy-heavy week on DVD this week, with last night’s winner for Outstanding Comedy (as well as dozens of other awards) and this year’s winner for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy both have big DVDs dropping this week.

Well, last night was television’s big night, the 2011 Emmy Awards, in which the luminaries of the small screen gathered together to pat each other on the back, stare vacuously on the red carpet before the show, and proceed to make horribly, horribly unfunny jokes before arbitrarily handing out awards.
ABC has decided to give early renewals to several shows on their roster. The long running drama “Grey’s Anatomy” will return for more next year as well as its spin-off “Private Practice.” Despite what some people might think about “Grey’s” current storylines, it still pulls in solid ratings for the network, so this decision shouldn’t come as a shock.
