What difference four years and a new director makes. Tom Cruise returns to his franchise role of Ethan Hunt in the new Mission: Impossible film Ghost Protocol, but the real star of the trailer is director Brad Bird. Known for his work on Pixar films like The Incredibles and Ratatoulie, Ghost Protocol is his first live action film, and he’s got it. Joining Cruise are faces like Jeremy Renner and Tom Wilkinson, while returning is – at least – Simon Pegg. Check out the trailer….

In the past decade, Simon Pegg has appeared in some of the most popular cult films and television shows around. He starred in the UK series “Spaced,” which featured frequent collaborator Nick Frost, as well as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, which were co-written and directed by Edgar Wright. Lately he’s had the opportunity to broaden his horizons with huge tentpoles like Star Trek and Mission Impossible. The latter is set to hit theaters on December 16th, and will feature Pegg reprising his character Benji Dunn from Mission Impossible 3. This year several highly anticipated sequels are headed to theaters including Michael Bay’s Transformers Dark of the Moon (July 1), and Brad Bird’s Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (December 16). Not to be outdone, JJ Abrams will also make his presence known with the sci-fi project Super 8 (June 10) and we can’t forget the Peter Jackson – Steven Spielberg collaboration The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (December 28). According to the IMAX Corporation, we’ll be able to see all four films plastered on their high-def screens the day and date of their theatrical releases.

Yesterday we learned that Christopher Nolan’s follow up to The Dark Knight would be called The Dark Knight Rises and today Tom Cruise and Paramount have unveiled the title of the next Mission Impossible.
