Despite the young ladies in lingerie with guitars imitating real life rock legends, the true star of The Runaways is Michael Shannon as the infamous Kim Fowley. Perfectly insane and yet oddly charming, he commands your attention every time he’s on screen, he completely embodies the role and becomes the dynamic and much loathed and loved Rowling… diamond studded collars and all.

It’s not often that I’m both eager for a film to finish and yet think the ending was too sudden. Perhaps that’s because there was no real ending to The Runaways, it just went on and on until it didn’t. The film delivers some high velocity punches mainly due to a number of great performances (especially by the magnificent Michael Shannon) but overall doesn’t have the kick it needs to be worthy of the music. The film lacks the brutal honesty of reality and in attempting to sugar coat it, it makes you think you’re watching kiddie porn instead of a group of lost girls discovering themselves.

Wow. Leave it to Werner Herzog, a director known as much for being crazy personality as his crazy pieces of art, to bring us a greek tragedy set in modern day. He has just finished his second of two films and not long after we get the trailer for his first film, Bad Lieutenant, we now have the trailer for his second project which was produced by David Lynch, My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done starring two of my favorite actors Willem Dafoe and Michael Shannon.

According to THR, Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) is circling a role in the film. When I found out about this casting news I wasn’t sure if it was legitimate or an April Fools joke. But the source is one of the most trusted trades in the business and I don’t think they would lie to me. According to THR, Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon and funnyman Will Arnett have signed on to co-star in the comic book adaptation, Jonah Hex. The cast already boasts of Josh Brolin in the title role, John Malkovich, and Megan Fox.

The most notable and surprising nominees in my opinion are Richard Jenkins for The Visitor and Michael Shannon for Revolutionary Road.
