What if you spent $200 million dollars on a movie and no one came? That’s the big headache with Mars Needs Moms, which lost the most money of any studio release this year. With a reported budget of $150 Million (not including prints and advertising), the film made $21 million domestically and $39 Million worldwide. Other big money losers include the Conan The Barbarian reboot (reported budget $90 million, worldwide gross $49 Million) and The Big Year (reported budget $41 million, worldwide gross $7 million). You can’t win them all.

Does the title Mars Needs Moms ring a bell for you? It’s the name of a new Disney animated film and it should be pretty self-explanatory. The film is directed by Simon Wells and is scheduled to hit theaters on March 11, 2011. The studio has released the first trailer for the space-family adventure and it’s interesting to say the least. Disney has a new animated journey to take us on, and it’s a little creepy and hopefully even more amazing. Director Simon Wells who worked on Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Shrek 2 and directed The Prince of Egypt and The Time Machine will be teaching kids why they really need their moms! That is by having aliens come down and steal them away! It’s a bit of a crazy concept but it could be a fun ride. At least it’s being presented in IMAX 3D so we know one thing is for sure… it’ll be pretty!
The film is voiced by Seth Green, Dan Fogler, Elisabeth Harnois, Mindy Sterling, Kevin Cahoon and Joan Cusack and is based off Berkeley Breathed’s comic strip. Check out the full poster below…
