Summer movie season officially begins this weekend with the release of the Fifth Fast & The Furious movie simply titled Fast Five. Two years ago, The Fast & The Furious opened with a bang, reaching new box office heights, and effectively turning the end of April into the unofficial launch of the summer movie season. This weekend should be no different as Fast Five has been building buzz for months, has had a number of positive reviews, and with the added star power of new cast member The Rock, Fast Five should open strong at # 1 this weekend.

It was a smooth flight for the animated birds of Rio this weekend. The family film stayed atop the box office during its second weekend, beating Tyler Perry‘s Madea’s Big Happy Family and the film adaptation of the New York Times’ best seller Water for Elephants. In just over a week, Rio has been able to gross a hefty $81.2 million, while Water for Elephants (the other Fox picture) grossed $17.5 million and came in at No. 3. Another box office success is Hop — despite its competition, this animated film is still gathering gold. This weekend it went over the $100 million mark.

A new trailer has been released for Tyler Perry’s latest movie Madea’s Big Happy Family. Like the majority of his films, it’s based on a stage play that he originally wrote, produced, and starred in. A few weeks ago Lionsgate premiered a teaser for the movie and it left a lot to be desired. The hot, shirtless guy who’s become a marketing sensation for Old Spice is taking his career to the next level. Isaiah Mustafa previously landed a part in the upcoming Tyler Perry drama, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf as a supporting character but instead of keeping him locked in that role, Perry made a switch. He pulled him out of Colored Girls and put him in his other flick Madea’s Big Happy Family — as the lead!
