MacGruber opened last weekend to the tune of $4.1 million dollars (didn’t see that coming) and despite its cast of “Saturday Night Live” vets, WWE wrestlers, and 80′s icons it wasn’t enough to debut at number one. What happened? Perhaps the world has gotten over their infatuation with MacGyver, SNL sketches, or gross over the top sex scenes that feature hairy and mildy out of shape actors?

The animation adventure that has stolen the hearts of kids and adults all over America is back with another installment. Shrek Forever After is the “Final Chapter” to the story of Shrek, the giant green ogre (Mike Meyers), his ex-princess/current ogre wife Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), and his two friends, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas).
Another film to pay attention to this week, in case Ogre’s living in Far Far Away doesn’t interest you, is Brian Koppelman and David Levien’s movie, Solitary Man. The A-list cast includes Michael Douglas, Susan Sarandon, Mary Louise Parker and busy-man Jesse Eisenberg (who has another movie coming out this week, Holy Rollers).
The there’s MacGruber… I think that one is pretty self explanatory…

Unruly dialogue, early eighties fashion, mullets, and explosions (can’t forget about the explosions) dominate the 88 minute run time of Jorma Taccone’s MacGruber. It’s been a while since “Saturday Night Live” has had the courage to produce a feature version of one of their skits, and they decided to take the plunge with the MacGyver inspired knock-off. MacGruber is transformed from a mediocre 30 second sketch to an amazing action satire complete with the presence of Powers Boothe, because no eighties action movie is complete without “The Boothe”!

A restricted trailer has been released for the “Saturday Night Live” based film, MacGruber and it features more violence, more blood, and more Iceman aka Val Kilmer. He stars as Deiter Von Cunth, an elusive bad guy who MacGruber must stop before he destroys the world! MSN Movies, got their hands on the trailer first, but we’ve also got it right here…

It’s been a long time since Lorne Michaels and his SNL team have produced a feature film version of one of their show’s sketches. The latest is MacGruber, the Will Forte centered skit about a special operations agent who dons an eerie resemblance to the popular eighties character, MacGyver. When it was on TV it was just fine, but now that it’s headed to the big screen the creator of MacGyver wants Michaels and company to pay up.

Just yesterday we got our first live action look at the upcoming “Saturday Night Live” film, MacGruber. We got to see all the explicit stuff in the red band restricted trailer, and now the green band version has been released. There won’t be any middle fingers or F-bombs in this preview, but it’s still surprisingly funny…

It’s finally here. The first trailer for the big screen adaptation of the “Saturday Night Live” spin-off, MacGruber. It’s been a long time since an SNL skit was turned into a feature film, the last noted attempts were The Ladies Man, A Night at the Roxbury and Superstar. Now, several high quality photos have been released for MacGruber as well as a red band trailer. It’s time to get down with some bad eighties fashion and unnecessary action…

A while back we reported on Ryan Phillippe‘s casting in the SNL skit turned film, MacGruber. Over at JustJared they’ve posted some behind the scenes set photos of the man in action. Seeing is really believing, because I still don’t understand why he would sign on to do this movie. Who knew Ryan could do comedy?
Here’s Ryan on the set of MacGruber being all sexy and funny at the same time…

I haven’t been a fan of Saturday Night Live inspired films for a very long time. There was a point in my life where I thought they were funny, and so did the rest of the general public, but somehow they lost their mojo. Have we returned to the point where SNL skits can once again be adapted into feature films? According to Yahoo News, MacGruber the MacGyver-esque character from the weekly sketch show has gotten a movie deal. Not only will he be heading to the big screen but he’s bringing Ryan Phillippe, Val Kilmer, and Jorma Taccone with him!
