It’s a tale as old as time: if a film makes a ton of money, they’re going to try to make a sequel – regardless if the film needs it. Bridesmaids made almost $170 Million at the box office, and there have been rumors about a sequel. Star and co-writer Kristen Wiig shot that down for now when she spoke to E! Online and said they’re not planning one. Perhaps she saw The Hangover Part II.
It’s an Emmy-heavy week on DVD this week, with last night’s winner for Outstanding Comedy (as well as dozens of other awards) and this year’s winner for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy both have big DVDs dropping this week.
But it’s not just winners here. The networks still have their coffers full of last season’s offerings from many top shows and they’re unloading another big bunch this week.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite on the big screen this weekend for their new comedy Paul. Like they’re previous works, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, which poked fun at the horror and action genre, Paul places the focus on science fiction. Move over Tina Fey, another SNL alum has decided to write and star in a film about women for women, and it’s Kristen Wiig! Wiig has built a serious presence in films over the past few years, and 2011 will be her time to shine as she joins forces with Maya Rudolph and Rose Byrne for a wedding-centric comedy called Bridesmaids. Well, they definitely took a risk on this film! Whether or not it worked out is another story. There are some extremely strong moments, an amazing supporting cast and a hell of a performance from the star of the film Ryan Gosling, the film didn’t quite add up the way it needed to in order for the audience to feel any real of sense of satisfaction. My guess is Blue Valentine will be his Oscar winning film this year, not All Good Things, though he was the best thing in this.
Universal Pictures has released the 1,000th trailer for their upcoming animated film Despicable Me. We get that they want us to see the movie but come on, ease up a little will ya? MacGruber opened last weekend to the tune of $4.1 million dollars (didn’t see that coming) and despite its cast of “Saturday Night Live” vets, WWE wrestlers, and 80′s icons it wasn’t enough to debut at number one. What happened? Perhaps the world has gotten over their infatuation with MacGyver, SNL sketches, or gross over the top sex scenes that feature hairy and mildy out of shape actors?
