MWWM Williams11 24 11 My Week with Marilyn: Movie Review

Marilyn Monroe is back in theaters again, this time played by the lovely and brave Michelle Williams, who much like Monroe always seems to be up for pushing herself and taking on a challenge. My Week with Marilyn is not your typical Monroe bio-film, though they throw in a few homages to her iconic dance numbers and songs, this film is really about pulling back the curtain and getting to know what really made Monroe an icon. It wasn’t her curves, it was that mysterious something else that gave her that edge, that sent directors mad, but ultimately made her one of the biggest stars, ever…

Thor International banner 2 3 18 11DH Monster Director To Helm Thor 2?

Huh—seems as if Marvel Studios is looking to continue their new tradition of having wildly talented directors of dramatic, emotionally searing films direct a movie about a blonde guy with a cape who swings a big hammer real hard.  At least, according to Entertainment Weekly, who has it that Patty Jenkins—the woman behind the grueling and harrowingly great Charlize Theron-starring film, Monster—will be taking over the director’s chair from Kenneth Branagh for Thor 2.

Thor Theatrical Trailer 2 18 11 kc Thor: Review

Thor may be the trickiest of the big Marvel characters to adapt. Both a Norse God, and an extra-terrestrial being, Thor doesn’t have the “normal person thrust into superpowers” hook – which is both good and bad. And to that end Thor is not really an origin tale, so much as a learning experience for the main character. There’s a lot to do here, on top of director Kenneth Branagh putting a big budget fantasy movie on the shoulders of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, both actors who – at best – had some notable supporting performances previous to this. Did they succeed?

MAN 08489 Interview: Thors Director, Writers and Producer

Bringing the God of Thunder to the big screen was a challenging experience, and the film – which hits theaters May 6 – went through years of development. And though director Kenneth Branagh might seem an odd fit, the film’s power struggles between gods are not dissimilar from the struggles of Henry V – an adaptation that made Branagh’s directorial career. For the press conference Branagh was joined by Marvel‘s Kevin Fiege, and screenwriters Don Payne, Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Check it out…
