GDdrew Going The Distance: Movie Review

Those who’ve fallen victim to the L.A. media craze should certainly have a field day with this one. Hollywood’s favorite on again/ off again couple, Justin Long and Drew Barrymore team up for Fall’s most anticipated rom-com, Going The Distance. The Warner Bros. release is directed by Nanette Burstein and also stars Christina Applegate, Charlie Day, Ron Livingston, Jason Sudeikis, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

going the distance long barrymore 8 24 10 Interview: Drew Barrymore and Justin Long Talk Going the Distance

This week in theaters Drew Barrymore and Justin Long star in a modern day romantic comedy (which seems almost biographical) about a couple torn apart by dueling coasts in Going the Distance. The couple managed to somehow pull off a relationship on and off screen despite all the nasty rumors circling around them. Not too long ago we got a chance to sit down with both of them at a press conference and talk a little bit about making the film.

Barrymore seems so at ease in front of a group of people and Long was cracking a number of jokes which kept it entertaining. They swapped a number of cute comments to one another, calling the other person a good kisser and what not. It, like the movie, was somehow managed to avoid being cheesy and was actually rather charming.

Trailer for Lionsgate’s New 3D Animation Alpha and Omega

alpha omega 5 25 10 Trailer for Lionsgates New 3D Animation Alpha and Omega

This is the kind of film that makes me appreciate Shrek. Shrek came in and said, “look everyone, we can entertain both adults and kids at the same time.” The first film must have had a sprinkle of magic on it, because even THEY couldn’t recreate the perfect adult-kid-comedic-chemistry that the first film had. Of course this is an old quality for animations (go re-watch Disney’s Peter Pan, there is plenty in there for adults to enjoy), but Shrek really brought it to the forefront of our current movie-going population.

Since then, everyone has tried to duplicate the Shrek-phenomenon – people liked it and the film made a lot of money. Some, like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs have been more successful than others, like what Alpha and Omega in doing so. I know this is supposed to be a kids film, but maybe they should have just left out the adults because just about every single “adult” joke in this trailer falls flat. The “I have to pee” and butt humor only works so much, they even say so.

That being said, maybe the film has promise? Watch the trailer and let us know what you think…

Trailer: Going to Distance – The Longing Text Message

going the distance5 21 10 Trailer: Going to Distance The Longing Text Message

Damn! And here I thought this film had promise. I really hope that this is just a bad trailer and not a real representation of the film that was supposed to be a realistic romantic comedy. Going the Distance stars the on-again-off-again-real-life couple Drew Barrymore and Justin Long and is by first time feature film director Nanette Burstein and was written by first time/Black List writer Geoff LaTulippe.

They do have quite a promising supporting cast, aside from our two lead characters the film co-stars Christina Applegate, Jason Sudeikis, Ron Livingston, Kelli Garner (who was so adorable in Lars and a Real Girl) and my favorite “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s,” Charlie Day.

Picture 151 Justin Long Joins Redfords The Conspirator

Everytime I see Justin Long I want to burst into laughter. Not because he’s weird looking or anything, but because he’s been featured in some of my favorite comedies. According to THR, the actor is about to make a serious shift to drama in Robert Redford‘s highly publicized, The Conspirator.

Picture 225 Official Youth in Revolt Trailer

There just isn’t a shortage of Michael Cera coming of age comedies out there is it? A trailer has just been released for Youth in Revolt. It’s a film by Miguel Iterta, and co-stars Zach Galifianakis, Justin Long, and newcomer Portia Doubleday. For the most part it’s that same deadpan comedy that we know and love, with a touch of romance and a dash of multiple personality disorder. Believe me, it looks crazier than it sounds. You can view the trailer below.

Clip From Funny People: George Simmons in Re-Do

funnypeople09 6 16 Clip From Funny People: George Simmons in Re Do

A movie within a movie. Clever. FunnyorDie has just released a new clip from Judd Apatow‘s upcoming comedy Funny People starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Leslie Mann. In the film, Sandler plays commedian George Simmons, whose job has resulted in mindless, slap-stick comedy, and who has just been diagnosed with cancer. Aside from the canecr part, this is definitely something Sandler can relate to.

The clip from Re-Do, starring Sandler’s character in the film Simmons and Justin Long, is not unlike some of the recent trailers that we’ve seen Sandler in. I don’t think You Don’t Mess with the Zohan had any more of a beliavable premise than Re-Do.

Drag Me to Hell Review

dragmetohell09 5 20 Drag Me to Hell Review

So normally we wouldn’t be able to post this review until next week, but due to the film premiering in Cannes, they’ve allowed us to release our review early…

Finally! A horror film I actually enjoyed watching! Suspense, blood, and even comedy, without all the ridiculous over the top gore that the Saw-like films have taken over the genre with. For any of you who are fans of the Evil Dead series, Drag Me to Hell has plenty of throw backs to Sam Raimi‘s earlier works and styles. For those of you who don’t know the series, don’t worry, you don’t need to know his work to enjoy it, but be prepared to get a education on what a great horror film entails.
