In the annals of horror movie roles, very few can actually score an actor or actress an Oscar nomination. There are the occasional exceptions, with one of the most memorable being Piper Laurie’s galvanizingly creepy take on the role of Carrie White’s hyper-religious mom in the original Carrie. Laurie scored an Oscar nomination for her performance; now, another Oscar-nominated actress is set to portray the character in the upcoming Carrie remake: Julianne Moore.

HBO’s Game Change, about the rise and fall of America’s most controversial vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, premiered on Saturday, and just about everyone had something to say. This new docudrama isn’t a continuation of the Tina Fey skits we saw during the 2008 presidential election on “Saturday Night Live“. It also isn’t an anti-Palin propaganda piece, though some conservatives may think it is. Based on the reviews we’ve garnered for you below, everyone seems to agree that Game Change has spectacular acting. Could Julianne Moore score an Emmy for her portrayal of the former governor?

While national attention may be focused on the presidential election of 2012, HBO is focused squarely on 2008, as evidenced by their new original film, Game Change, which chronicles the events of the 2008 presidential election between Barack Obama and John McCain. And, in a new trailer for the film, much of the movie seems centered on the reasoning behind McCain’s decision to select Sarah Palin as his VP, and his campaign’s discovery that she might be a little, well, nuts.

Crazy, Stupid, Love, is another simple, funny, easy to swallow and in no way challenging comedy that was made for everyone. It’s got some fine actors, giving good performances (though none of their best) with some solid comedic lines and quite a bit of heart. Indie film Chloe will finally be making its way to theaters on March 26th and we have a little trailer to get you excited for the new sexy (not too original) thriller starring Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, and Amanda Seyfried. The film is about a jealous wife that questions her husband David’s fidelity and decides to hire an escort to see how far he’ll go.
Although the film boasts and impressive cast, the film sounds like a number of films we’ve seen before. And those who have seen it are saying similar things, according to our Santa Barabara Film Festival review “One cannot help but think of things like Fatal Attraction, Theorema and even The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, but Chloe’s not even as good as the least of those.”

One of the big name auteur’s at this year’s Santa Barbara Film Festival is Atom Egoyan (not in person), with his latest Chloe. A sexual drama that bears a dubious reputation from its round on the festival circuit last year, it was adapted from 2003′s star-studded Nathalie (Depardieu, Ardent, Béart) and turns out to have been described quite accurately as a misfire.
