The new take on the comic character Judge Dredd is well on its way. The first photo from the film was released in November and it showed actor Karl Urban as the judge, jury, and executioner himself. Other than that, we haven’t heard much about the production or the rest of the cast, that is, until now. Over at the fansite, Judge Dredd Movie News, they claim that British actress Lena Headey has signed on to play the villain.

Last week it was announced that Olivia Thirlby (from Juno) had joined the cast of the rebooted Judge Dredd movie. She’ll star alongside Karl Urban who will play the title character, a role that was previously filled by Sylvester Stallone. Over on the official website for IM Global (one of the studios producing the film), they’ve listed the movie’s title as simply Dredd, and they’ve also posted a plot synopsis. Check it out…

Earlier this month it was confirmed that Star Trek star Karl Urban had been chosen to take over the role of Judge Dredd in the live action reboot of the comic. The character was previously played by Sylvester Stallone and now the New Zealand actor is about to take his place. According to a recent report from Variety, Urban will now be joined by Juno co-star Olivia Thirlby.

He’s the cop with a huge gun and an obsession with the law who was previously played by Sylvester Stallone in the nineties movie that we’d all like to forget but can’t. According to Empire, another adaptation is in the works and Urban has been confirmed to play the title character.

The 1995 big screen adaptation of Judge Dredd was a forgettable action flick that somehow left a scar on my childhood. It starred Sylvester Stallone as the title character, and was directed by Danny Cannon. Fourteen years after the initial assault was made on theaters, a remake of the film is on the horizon. According to Empire, British writer Alex Garland is currently writing a draft for the upcoming film’s screenplay.

There’s a lot going on in the film world today. Just to keep you caught up. Here is a quick round up on some of the great things released today.
- The American Society of Cinematographers has officially announced their Nominees which includes Cinematographers for Revolutionary Road, The Reader, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, and Slumdog Millionaire. [FirstShowing]
- Slammin’ Salmon Red Band Trailer. This thing looks absolutely ridiculous and yet I can’t wait to see it. Check it out now at SlashFilm.
